TWO MORE DAYS!

Dec 16, 2009 19:21

Only two more days until I get two weeks away from my life-eating job. Whee! I may actually be able to write again!

Is there anyone else out there who's so tired of the "OMG David is leaving!!!1!!11eleventy" hype that you just don't care any more? Granted, I've been busy, but I don't honestly have much interest in watching Waters of Mars, let ( Read more... )

Glad to hear about the screenwriting class news, and for pending Tuesday sleep-ins.

Ten weeks? Is this something that regularly happens, she asked, not knowing how the education system works in your neck of the woods.

Hmmm ... I don't think you'll lose the fun of fandom; the nice thing about any fandom is that it's always there for you, and won't disappear if you take a vacation, even a lengthy one. You can take a break if you want, you can rediscover other things you've lost track of, you can empty your brain of all things fannish and enjoy all sorts of other things - and then you can wander back and rediscover what you enjoyed about fandom (whether that's DW, or anything else.) It can all be done at your pace. Don't ever let fandom become a drag, on your emotions or your time; you got into it for fun.

I'm looking forward to what's coming, but then I've been a fan for decades and probably will always look forward to whatever's coming (even if I still mourn Nine's passing. Heh.)

Is this something that regularly happens, she asked, not knowing how the education system works in your neck of the woods.Depends on the school you're going through to get your certification. The state used to require 3 weeks of being solely in charge of a classroom; I'm not sure if that has changed since I was certificated or not, but that's what it used to be. My school had us in a student-teaching classroom for 14 weeks, the length of a semester, and we were completely in charge of the classroom for something like six or eight weeks. Jenn is going to a different school, and she's in a special sort of program designed for people leaving another career to go into teaching, so her requirements are different from what mine were. (Of course, I was in school 12 years ago, so it's obviously going to be different!) She's been in the classroom since the first day of school, but she hasn't completely taken over yet; she's been doing required observations in other classes (special ed, Gifted, etc.) and starting to take over slowly ( ... )

I can't get excited when I see the trailers and I do agree it's all dragged on for too long. I'm sick of DT's Doctor face and looking forward to the new guy now.

But I do still want to see how RTD wraps everything up so I'm looking foward to the last Special.

I still haven't seen Waters of Mars. Not that I'm avoiding it per se, just that I don't much care. I figure I'll watch it sometime this week, since I'm off work for the holidays now. :)

It will be interesting to see how RTD does the hand-off, I agree; I think I might be looking forward to that myself. :)

I'm almost afraid to say anything, since anything I say just seems to drive you farther under a rock, but you did ask, so here it goes.

Don't care about DT leaving: Check. Has it dragged on way too long? Check. And I was perfectly fine with not watching any of the specials, having had about all the emo!Doc I could take.

Then they pulled the rug out from under me in WoM.

I was always going to try the next series and Eleven. Now I'm actually looking forward to the last two specials, and I didn't think *anything* could make me look forward to those.

YMMV.

I think I might be starting to be interested to see how RTD does the hand-off to Moff, actually. This is a good sign. :)

Don't worry, I *will* watch WoM. I'm just not sure when. Sometime this week, maybe. And no, *you* haven't been driving me anywhere, honestly. I just haven't had enough interest in me to bother downloading and watching the damn thing yet. *hugs*

I confess, I never got caught up in the "Waaaah! David!" so much. I've just patiently been biding my time watching the narrative and character arcs and enjoying them, and feeling sad that Ten is going away.

David's an actor. Actors move on. It's the character I've engaged with and will miss terribly when he goes. No more Ten once Ten goes up to Eleven.

Glad to hear the writing continues apace!

EXACTLY. Which is part of why the reaction of so much of fandom has bugged me so. I'll watch WoM at some point, probably this week, if for no other reason than that I *am* interested to see the handoff from RTD to Moff. We'll see how it goes. :)

Yeah, the doomsaying is exhausting. I just want to shake people. Argh.

Gosh, and I thought it was only me...but I've been feeling the same thing about fandom lately. I think maybe I'd overdosed. And when I was overdosing I knew the letdown would come someday.

But I also know Who will be there for me when I want to return to it. And I am looking forward to seeing what SM does with it.
