What's wrong with this picture? Literally?

Sep 03, 2004 22:07

A (long) while ago, I signed up on a personals web site. Met a few geeks, went on some uncomfortable meet-ups, basically decided that "in person" was the way to find someone.

Little while later, I've forgotten my previous lessons, I decide to update my personals profile thingy and try again ( Read more... )

love life, personals

Forgive me for what I'm about to do, because it goes against every principle I have about women and relationships and dating agencies and judging people by their photos and ... well, you get the point ( ... )

:) Thank you for overriding your (very sane) principles about personals and photos and such and giving me some very good feedback about what I'd put out there. ::hugs::

Yeah, believe it or not, that picture in the icon I'm using here isn't actually of me.

And if someone 8'11" shows up, I'll call you...and Guiness Book (World's Tallest Blind Date!)

Hmmm. Dunno, exactly. Love the profile, definitely. And I really like the *other* picture, because you look really snarky and smart. But the smiley pic, I think maybe it should show teeth. If you want, I'll come over and take a bunch, and then we can go out drinking. Or maybe we can go out drinking first. (I don't even know if you drink. If not, then there's always food.)

I have a profile there, too, and don't get much response, but I have contacted a few boys in the past and some of them have responded to my response, blah blah. I dunno. I mean, I'd date ya.

Hey, thanks woman. :) Yeah, the votes are definitely adding up for a real smile in one of my pics.

I think I may let e_ticket fuss over me in the new pics arena (I've actually known him for about 15 years (!!) now, and he should know a few tricks to make me genuinely laugh. Besides, gay men are the world's champion Fussers) but we prolly should meet up sometime, shouldn't we? Bein' in the same 'hood and all. Are you a fan of Grant Lee Phillips? Looks like voleuse and I are gathering a contingent to go see him at Largo this Thursday. And there will be food AND drink there. :P

I growl at LJ for just now sending me this comment! It's been over 24 hours; don't they know how much time that is??

Hmmm, Largo, and this is now tomorrow night, eh? Will there be a problem getting in if I decide at the last second? And what time, etc? And will you save me a seat if I email that I'm coming? And stuff like that.

Okay, I wrote to Voleuse today, and discovered that goofed on the date - she's called in for reservations for the Sept. 30 show - plenty of time for everyone to arrange their schedules.

Whaddya think now? :)

Your profile is amazing...funny, smart, sexy, interesting..you had me wishing I was straight (ok, maybe I wasn't wishing I was straight, maybe I was wishing you were a guy). The two that you sent hello notes two...maybe they just haven't seen the message yet?

That picture is good, but you need to photoshop out the background...bathrooms don't turn guys on (not the kind you'd want to meet, anyway)...maybe put yourself in a library or theatre setting.

And get another picture in there of the whole you...get someone to take it for you...you, curled up all cute in a big comfy chair, plain wall in the background...no outlets, pictures hanging, etc.

I concur.

Have Dave Cobb take your pictures. If he can make me look like Catherine Deneuve, just think what he'll do for you.

I'd be glad to!

Tracina, you are always adorable, pic or live or print. If I took your picture, I'd probably do something a bit more three-quarter, and probably looking up a bit at camera. And I concurr with Alonso -- I'd keep the glasses on cuz they're SUPER cute on you.

And your profile made me pee this morning. Just a little.

Shall we schedule a photo session? :)

::blush:: Gee, tanks, mistah. :P

I think I can picture it - I have several shots you sent me of yourself that are exactly that. :P

:D Glad you liked. Sorry about making you change clothes. (You did change, right?)

Shall we schedule a photo session? :)

I think we should. You know, if we could do it sometime during a day when you were at work and I was at home, we'd both only have to move about 4 feet to meet up with each other (my house = near your work, and all.) Are you able to take a long enough lunch or pop over after work or something? We can talk about it tonight (which I do believe I'll be attending. :P)

I hope you don't mind me massaging your image a little in Photoshop. I defocussed the background and added some bite to the smile. :)

I never mind a massage. ;)

I actually like the background blur a lot - it looks really cool and ethereal and amazing. I hesitate, on principle, to alter my face, though, just because I figure that if people can tell it was altered, they'll be like "What was taken out?! Her mustache, a third nostril, what?!" But what you did was very subtle. I still think I'll probably take new pix, though, although I may throw your version of the picture up on my profile till then - that okay? :)

LOL, I never intended you to use the picture in your profile, it was more to show how it would look incorporating some of the suggestions you got. :)

I don't mind you using it, but feel free to revert your smile back to the original if you like.

My first thought about the new pic? Damn, she looks really cute.

My second thought? Dude, the profile sounds like someone who likes to smile and laugh wrote it (BTW you rock!!).

You totally light up when you do.

You need to show that on the picture.

Oh, and maybe try some other places.

Hey you. :) Thanks for chiming in on the pic thing. Glad you approved.

I do think I'll try some other places, though - I picked personals on The Onion because I thought it would find me folks that were funny and smart, which it kind of has, but then I found out that this personals thing is actually part of a very large network, and The Onion is just one of several sites they use to showcase them. But I think this pond may have been fished, for now. :) I'm looking at a couple of other sites, see what I think. Don't know if I'm going to make too big a deal out of it, really. (Because, hey, for one thing: Arms. :P Who wrote me a funny email yesterday - more later.)
