Oh good lord.

We just found a live baby mouse in our basement. It's fully furred but clearly not full-grown. A mouse morsel.

And we can't bring ourselves to kill it because it's so damned cuteSo, I've got it in a little plastic critter carrier with a capful of water and a corner of bread. We've decided to see if it lives until spring and then release it. * ( Read more... )

I love mice. I was always the kid that took the class mice home over the holidays. but now, we have cays, so that doesn't work so well :)

I don't normally like rodents of any kind (seriously, the zoo chinchilla was the only animal that I worked with there that bit me and actually drew blood), but... IT'S CUTE. It's all ROUND with a pointy little NOSE and fluffy little WHISKERS and GAH.

I'm half-hoping it doesn't actually live through the night.

I like certain kinds of mice. The mice you find in basements, not so much. If there's one not full-grown mouse, there are probably others. Keep an eye out.

We're debating what we want to do. I don't like the idea of poison, because I'm afraid the cat will find a poisoned mouse and eat it, so we may just go with conventional traps. There's probably a whole family of the damn things living in the wall.

I'm a sucker for babies, too. Although I know better!

My sister does wildlife rescue - she's had a lot of bunnies and squirrels and even possums (once - turns out she's allergic to possum) but I don't think even she bothers with mice. But she did say that if bunnies are big enough to have fur, they're big enough to survive on their own. Mice may be no different, and you might be able to release it now and be off the hook for its welfare.
