Oh my god, it is mostly there out of VAGUE GUILT. About HALFWAY THROUGH writing this, I suddenly thought, "I wonder why I decided to write cavefic, of all the tropes to pi- oh, shit." But then I decided to finish writing anyway and CLEVERLY DISCLAIM the bad timing within the story.
