Oh my. This is just the start of the PITA medical bill crap you have to go through when having a baby at a hospital.

And yes, we had to prepay both the OB and the hospital. And then after the birth you will get a ton of bills from outside entities that did things in the hospital - pediatrician, anaesthesiologist, etc. We just got one from the freaking EAR CLINIC where I see they charged our insurance 125 bucks for the freaking hearing screening they do on all the babies. And Wil had to have it done twice. All it involves is sticking a probe in their ear for 30 seconds and they charge 125 freaking dollars. It is insane. Prepare yourself.

I also got a bill from a lab for 500 bucks that I had to pay out of pocket because my insurance apparently doesn't cover the lab that the hospital used to process my bloodwork before my csection. The kicker is that I'd already had the bloodwork done during my prenatal appointments, and they never even told me they were doing it again. You can bet I'm appealing that one.

And it's not like they even gave me the choice of a lab either.

Ugh! My mom warned me to make sure I get an itemized statement for EVERYTHING. She was charged an additional day she never spent in the hospital when she had my brother. I've heard nightmare stories of people being double charged for services.

That sucks. Is it a Texas thing? My delivery, hospital stay, plus all of the nine months of OB care was billed globally and not until the date of Augie's delivery.

I insurance paid for everything - I just had a $15 copay for the first doc visit and I don't think the hospital got paid by the insurance until after the baby was born
