It was interesting. I liked her insights in the abstract more, though.

The example she gave was of someone who got the caps/shouting thing wrong & because of the sequencing of posts the commenter got offended. Frankly, I found the response from the commenter peevish and a bit precious.

I miss the lack of body language cues on the internet but I can cope more easily with this than more instantaneous means of communication: say IM, or even (depending on the person), 'phone.

Now in practical terms, I think we all had better develop thick hides about slip-ups in communication. Imagine, not so many years from now, a bunch of us in the nursing home. Slightly dementing maybe. Laptops and wireless Internet as Diversional Therapy for Cranky Old Women (and Men, but there'll be more of us).

Scary.

The usual dance with the typical passive aggressive dance partner.

I'm sorry your online buddy has caught her skirts in this, but I feel her intelligence and energy can be better channelled elsewhere.
