Proswatch Community Viewing: Not a Very Civil Civil Servant

I'd much rather be at Nattercon this weekend (with the rather large contingent of Pros fans we are used to seeing around here) than watching NaVCCS, but oh well ( Read more... )

Not a favorite, eh? *g* I like the lad scenes very much. Especially when Bodie meets up with Doyle and Cowley in the courtroom. Doyle saunters to the door, and Bodie bows him through, and (MS, I'm sure) gives him such a wicked smile.... That pretty well makes the episode for me. Oh! And the pub fight and it's aftermath, when Hallorhan says "too many of you are bent" and LC and MS exchange this...wonderful...look.

Okay, yes, not so much about the episode as about the actors/characters. *g*

There's a ton of fabulous Lads stuff in this one - I guess I didn't have it in me to list it all out... And there's something about the mundaneness about their scenes that makes this episode a perfect illustration about what I love about the show as a whole. But I think I've watched it enough times that the story tends to lull me to sleep and I skim over all the goodness. I don't know - Maybe I'm just not in the mood today... I'm pretty distracted.

Anyway, I'll say this - The show wouldn't be what it is for me without this episode (and a couple of others like it) and yet, I don't feel a lot of squee in rewatching (for the gazillionth time.)

Doyle ... squee ... chest hair, rope neck chain, thumb in back pocket as they leave the Court Room and fencing ... practising for playing the 'fencing' Judge :)

I never actually gave much thought to the changes in location in this one until you pointed it out, and you're right: it does make a world of difference to have the lads in so many locations: so many shows of the era, and even shows today, were shot strictly in scenes, the large amount of location shooting does make Pros much grittier and more organic...

Thanks for pointing that out, and sorry that this ep wasn't one of your favorites.

Not really one of my favourites either. I think I followed the plot when I first watched it, but did get bored with the bits in between seeing the Lads this time around.

I hadn't thought about how much the locations made this ep, but now you've pointed it out, it does give a more 'real' feel to it.

When the Lads were in it, they seem to make the most of it - banter, bar room brawls and Doyle showing his chest hair and chain. Lovely!! ;)

I must be weird, because I really love this episode and enjoy it thoroughly whenever I watch. The bad guys are played with such gusto, curling their lips and snarls around some terrific dialogue in those Etonian accents. And the lads just fizz off the screen together. Like you, I like the small details of their life on the streets sometimes - the chip shop scene, for example, Bodie being so thorough in his preparation of everyone's salt and vinegar.
