Now that we're into season two, you'll probably hear less and less from me... I mean, this is where it all just starts getting consistently fabulous - 24/7... The lads always look amazing, the partnership is just sublimely smooth and gorgeous and enthralling to watch, the stories get consistently good enough that I don't often have any problems ( Read more... )

So, the potential for disaster with our lads is always there - If they aren't kept in check, consistently guided by some external compass Very nicely put. I liked that you focused on the issues, on Cowley's speech, etc. Gordon Jackson had some fine words to work with on occasion.

Thanks - I felt like I wasn't speaking clearly but I must have done something right because reading it back this morning, it doesn't sound half as bad as I thought it did ( ... )

Mmm, this is good and thought-provoking, thanks.

I do like Cowley's big speech, and the clear passion and conviction behind it, although a big part of me agrees with Geraldine's point: just because he believes it doesn't make it so.

Certainly there's a big issue here, one of the few recurrent threads in Pros, relating to Cowley's accountability - supposedly represented here through the appearance of the Minister. I do think you're right to point out that Bodie and Doyle aren't really required to think, Cowley decides their morality - it's the only way such an organisation could properly function. But then, someone has to keep an eye on Cowley's ethics. (Shades of 'In the Public Interest')

Don't think that my admiration for his speech (or his general conviction that what he is doing it right) is an entirely *positive* thing in my eyes... I mean, I feel just as horrified and alarmed at his speech as I feel admiration for his integrity and conviction... I'm at that age where my heart and conscience and politics support Geraldine Mather completely - and yet, I'm old and tired and sick of living in a filthy war zone run by animals and I *WANT* to believe in Cowley... Deep in my heart I *want* his reality and justice and conviction... But then I feel the revulsion and duplicity in me... It's complicated.

I do think you're right to point out that Bodie and Doyle aren't really required to thinkThey have to think for themselves up to a certain point - Certainly they have to keep control over their own morals and ethics about what they are doing and Ray, at least, knows he can't go around acting like a barbarian. This episode explores that wonderfully. But there's a level at which Cowley says, "You go in shooting and don't ( ... )

Completely agree, it's quite overwhelming. If that's what you'll say every week, that's fine by me, it's worth repeating! *g*

he really gets some great dialog, doesn't he?
He does, I think Cowley is brilliant, all credit to GJ for his portrayal.
