Global ProsWatch Community Viewing: The Rack

Now that we're into season two, you'll probably hear less and less from me... I mean, this is where it all just starts getting consistently fabulous - 24/7... The lads always look amazing, the partnership is just sublimely smooth and gorgeous and enthralling to watch, the stories get consistently good enough that I don't often have any problems with them... I mean, all I really have to say is the same thing I'll have to say every week... OMGSQUEE - The lads looked amazing, the partnership is just sublimely smooth and gorgeous and enthralling to watch, the story was good enough that I didn't have any problems with it...

This is why I run a *graphics* fan site - Not fanfiction, or recs, or information. And anything above and beyond the simple, visual gorgeousness of them just seems too personal to share. It's *MINE* and I don't want anyone to ruin that for me.

So, I suppose, I should set aside time to do wallpapers, or screen shots, or something each week. Because I don't want to bore everyone with saying the same damn thing all the time. But you all know how useless my promises are these days, so I won't promise just yet.

I don't even have anything for you *this* week (after just saying so)...

So, what stood out about this ep above and beyond the usual above...?

Well, ya'll know I'm a sucker for a good dialog on morality and the balance between right and wrong. So this one had it's moments. Lots of them. I would have liked just the tiniest bit more than they gave us though (because I'm demanding that way.) They thoroughly discussed the dodgy morality of the level of force and legality at which CI5 operates, even though the focus of the hearing was more on the literal violence of the incident. And our heroes get to a point where they are seeing the grotesqueness of their actions (if they squint real hard) but that's in direct relation to the violence... But they don't go anywhere near admitting (internally) how close to the line of being animals they are walking just in their everyday existence and actions, under the current model of CI5. Which is perhaps the one little thing I would have hoped for - And, I believe, would have added a hint of the sublime/subtlety to the balance...

Of course, Cowley gets the closest to that than the others - He takes responsibility for his extreme actions/choices and balances out all the possibilities before acting - Willing to accept that the best choice in the moment with whatever knowledge or resources he has isn't necessarily the *best* choice in a perfect world. But he's willing to make that choice and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT because he has conviction and a strong sense of justice. And Cowley's final speech at the hearing really, really rocked my boat. We don't get a lot of Cowley but when we do, he really gets some great dialog, doesn't he?

It could be said that this is how it should be in their world - Ray and Bodie *shouldn't* think about it - That's what Cowley is *for*. They are to do as they are told and Cowley... Well, thank God it's Cowley (and not George Bush.) So, the potential for disaster with our lads is always there - If they aren't kept in check, consistently guided by some external compass, they could very easily lose focus and degenerate into animals. I love how this episode explores that line in them a bit. Unfortunately, I keep getting pulled away from them, back to the grander, more global issues Cowley represents. And I don't get the sense that *they* admit any of that at all.

Hmm... Well, perhaps that was subtle and complex after all... When you break it all down, it seems to cover all the points. And yet, I still felt like *someone* coped out *somewhere* and this could have been even edgier of an issue.

In other news... Ray can be a bit moody/dramatic for my tastes at times but of course I thought the personal crap he worked through in this was terribly interesting. But it was the Cowley moments that spoke more to me than Ray or Bodie's positions/issues.
