This has always been one of my very favorite episodes - And definitely my favorite Bodie episode... I get flack when I talk about it because what I see in Bodie in this episode is a characterization a lot of fans disagree with (and I can never defend myself in a debate - I'm no good with words

D'oh! I totally forgot to mention Doyle barging up into the attic screaming for Bodie... I *love* that!

That's whats so utterly sublime and gorgeous about this episode/Bodie - They so perfectly illustrate why Doyle, Bodie, and Cowley work so incredibly well together by showing us how Bodie flounders/his limitations in a situation on his own. And being with Doyle/Cowley not only make what he *is* good at shine, it makes him a better person. Sometimes a show will *tell* you that about a character, but they don't often *show* you.
I just think that's gorgeous to watch and Lew does an amazing job with it.

LOL! When I was growing up my Mom was always into "encounter groups" and retreat weekends... Seems like I spent half my life locked in a room with people having feelings and talking out ( ... )

And I know it's insulting to my English pals, but I think his comment about the English is hilarious:
Bodie: May we have a drink? I think we all need one...
Meyer: LOL...May I have a drink, vicar? So polite, vicar...Let's all have a little tea party! You English are all insane...
Don't know many English that'd be insulted by that, actually, they'd probably be the first to make fun of it, in fact! There's a whole "More tea, vicar?" thing about that sort of situation. Oh, and I just found this googling which is apparently part of the National Curriculum, and just shows ( ... )

I don't think that's it at all - Sharon says it better than I can over at Matt's site: "He can be charming, he can be deadly. But he is not a manager! Bodie ***NEEDS*** a partner and a boss!"

Erm - Dave's site? Although if someone called Matt has also got a site, I'd like to know about it! *g*
...but I can't go with stupid Bodie...

Oh, but for whatever reason (and I'm perfectly happy to find one for him, and I can go along with the one that you give here too!) surely you have to admit that he was acting stupidly?! I mean, there was very little that he did that was a good plan/smart way of dealing with things...

Isn't that called subtext? *vbg*
So, it's possible that Meyer was actually pulling in a cultural reference there
Well, in the context of the character, I'd say not - not the way he was using it - but in the context of the writers who created his character, I'd say so...
Like us quoting a line from a TV show when talking to someone. Hmm...Erm... more like you talking about...erm... the various stereotypical high school characters that ( ... )

I think I'm being unduly distracted by the word "stupid"... It's just not the word I'd use but yeah, he was making some bad decisions and did not posses some of the skills he needed on this job. I found that interesting to watch and thought it gave Bodie a depth of character that bordered the sublime - I think others considered it bad writing and felt Bodie was completely out of character. To each his/her own - but depending on how you look at it, it *does* profoundly change how we see the character much, much later (and especially in fanfiction) so it continues to be a hot-spot in the community. ;-)
Sorry if I'm being annoying - I'm not trying to pick a fight, just playing around with trying to express myself (not something I'm good at.) :-(
