OK, so in a few hours I am going to be on a plane, on my way to Paris for a week.  I can hardly believe it!  I hardly slept last night, and I am not done packing yet, but I do have most of the essentials all set to go.  I have clothes, a guidebook,  a camera, and my passport.  Oh yeah, and my wallet.  Can't get too far without that.

My cousin sent me a postcard of the Paris Opera House when I was in secondary school because we were both Phantom fans. Back when the show opened, there was no hope of it coming to Ireland to play so I had to rely on my trusty vinyl soundtrack and gaze at the picture imagining it. I'd love to see it in person someday.

I agree, the film gets a bad rep. I love to snark on it (Mme Giry is a pimp! He pretends to be her father but he wants to do WHAT to her?! Raoul had bad hair!) to my cousin because she doesn't appreciate that kind of talk about her beloved musical which makes it all the more fun. Schumacher may have gone a bit mad with the script and performances, but the production details are sumptious and brilliant. The script in the companion book reads like a very bad fanfic masquerading as a harlequin romance. If that had been handed to me as a producer or potential auditioner, I'd have handed it straight back.
