Le jour grand est arivee

OK, so in a few hours I am going to be on a plane, on my way to Paris for a week.  I can hardly believe it!  I hardly slept last night, and I am not done packing yet, but I do have most of the essentials all set to go.  I have clothes, a guidebook,  a camera, and my passport.  Oh yeah, and my wallet.  Can't get too far without that.

Anyway, being in a Paris type mood last night, I thought to myself, I must have a movie that will help get me in the mood for my trip.  I suppose I could have put on Casablanca, but instead I picked something much less dignified, and far more cracktastic.  Yup, last night I watched The Phantom of the Opera.  Oh, how I have missed it!

It's still got the amazing costumes, a theme song straight out of the 80s, complete with hand claps, a lead actress who can't act, and one guy stuck with a really bad wig.  Oh yeah, and the Phantom is still way hotter than he has any right to be.  I know, he's not the best singer ever, but I thought it worked.  But perhaps I am blinded by how he looked in that "Red Death" costume.

Anyhow, I think it's a movie that kind of gets an unfair rap.  I know it's not genius cinema, but it IS entertaining, which is really all I ask for.  But it is funny to think how Patrick Wilson went from playing Raoul, the dim wet-blanket (although he does sing divinely) to playing Nite Owl II in Watchmen.  Come to think of it, in both movies his love interest isn't a very good actress. Hee!  Some things never change.  And also, since Gerard Butler did the voice over for The Black Freighter stuff, eventually they'll be back in a movie together.  With Gerry playing another guy who totally loses it.

Anyway, it did get me all excited that I'm going back to Paris, and I can see the Palais Garnier (which is the basis for the Opera Populaire) in person.  I have been to Paris before, but I only got to see it from the outside.  I'm not sure if going to be able to get in because right now it is opera season.  In fact, Indomeneo is playing while I am there.  If I had buckets of money, I would totally go.

Anyhow, I should get back to my packing, and I do promise to try to check in while I am away.  The idea of being Internet-less for a week is unfathomable.  When I return to the States, I shall have pictures!
