I dropped out of this year's GISHWHES because I couldn't get anyone here in Minneapolis to join me. The first year I did it by myself, last year I was lucky a friend joined me, but this year was just disappointing. Not exactly sure how GISHWES works, but could you use the GISHWES network itself to put you in touch with other nearby GISHWESERs? And then your newfound GISHWES compadres could double as your new local geek compadres?

I wish it worked that way, but if you don't have a team you get randomly joined to another. That's what I did when the first year and it's necessary to get those random people on your team because you never know if you need someone from Germany or China lol. I just wasn't in the mood to do it by myself this year - kinda like watching a funny movie where it's always better to laugh with others!
