I just watched the documentary The Weather Underground. It was one of the best documentaries I have ever seen.

It didn't feel biased one way or another, though definitely sympathetic to the feelings of outrage the subjects felt. There was no self-insertion, not even someone asking questions, on or off-screen. It didn't lose its focus during the ( Read more... )

The Agronomist is way up there for me, as is Trembling Before G-d.

Hothouse, an incredibly well-done and balanced piece on the large branches of Palestinian leadership and politics that take place with-in Israeli jails. Director is actually a friend of my family, Shimon Dotan.

Also, do the entire runs of the shows, "Wild West Tech" and "History's Lost and Found" count? Because if so, them, a million times them.

By far my favourite nature documentary is 'Blue Planet'. I love it. I've watched and rewatched it countless times.

I also liked 'Sharkwater' though not as much.

Don't know if these are technically what you wanted though as there is not really too much controversial about Blue Planet anyway...

Oh no, I definitely don't care about "controversial." Hell, one of my favorite documentaries is Ken Burns' The Shakers: Hands to Work, Hearts to God.

The Lost Boys of Sudan really makes you appreciate the world more and it shows how determined people can truly be in the face of all possible disasters.

I also really liked The Power of Forgiveness as well. It was the first documentary to ever make me cry. It felt almost like a therapy session.

There are two documentaries called "The Power of Forgiveness"-one is about the Amish school shooting and the other is about a convicted murderer's religious conversion in prison.

The Lost Boys of Sudan is in my Netflix queue.:)

One of my favorite documentaries is a BBC one on Chernobyl, and the scientists etc. who worked inside to clean it, and the scary and awesome stuff that's in and around it:
