My psychiatrist took me me from 300mg of Effexor a day to 150mg a day, overnight because the
insurance company said they wouldn't pay for any more than that. Rock.
I've bolded the symptoms I experience most during typical Effexor withdrawal.

Venlafaxine (Effexor) may cause potentially severe withdrawal symptoms upon sudden discontinuation

?!?!?!? Well, that sucks.

He couldn't even give you 50 mg or even 100mg samples to help you transition down from 300 to 150? Was he completely unconcerned about withdrawal, or did he have some kind of wacky strategy, or what was his problem?

I think she just wasn't thinking about the withdrawal. But I told her in March that I was taking 2 Effexor about every other day for a week and became suicidal.

Squeak, wheel, squeak. Call her back. She should be able to just give you some Eff in small doses to allow you to taper just a bit...

Could you talk to her and ask her to prescribe two of the 150 mg. tabs that way you can stay on your regular dosage before slowly easing off of it?

mugglerock, your icon makes my LIFE. I used to watch Blues Clues with Steve CONSTANTLY. And this was before I used to get stoned. Happy nostalgic memories for Nikki.

Kathryn: Please bother your psych to help wean you off the medicine. Because seriously, she is a plague to her profession if she's letting you experience these types of symptoms, especially the suicidal ones.

Hehe. I should try watching it while stoned. Yeh, I watched it all the time, too. It was so much fun. Boo on Joe, though. He's not as fun.

P.S. No, no no. Your icon XD!!!!

I work at an insurance company. It seems really odd that they'd deny you a certain dose of a covered medication. Sometimes it's cheaper (for them) if you buy a different dose and use a pill splitter, or if you take multiple pills to equal the dose of one stronger pill, so they'll change their coverage to save money. Sooooo... are you sure it's that they won't cover you to be on 300 mg per day, or is that they won't cover the pills in the 300 mg dosage? if it's the latter, then your doc just needs to rewrite your prescription so you're on 2 150 mg pills per day instead of 1 300 mg pill. you may want to look into this further.

They won't cover me to take 300mg a day. I know it's weird. I have Aetna. Are they particularly stupid?
