Interesting how those moments that we want to share with our parents become major memories for us. I'm so sorry that your parents became distant, perhaps, during a very life-changing time in your life.

I think part of the ageing process involves disengaging. I saw it happen with my grandparents, I see it happening with my parents... It is a gradual withdraw from life and living.
It isn't a bad thing, you haven't done anything to bring it on, it just is.
Nightsky lives 2000 miles away from his dad and brother...his only living immediate family. He calls his dad weekly...usually on Sunday. They yak and talk and solve the world's problems.
If Nightsky didn't call, I'm not sure his dad would keep a weekly call schedule.
It's hard to lose our parents. You have my sincere sympathy.
