We have a Video Toaster. This is a piece of equipment that takes various real-time and recorded A/V streams, applies various effects, and sends it to its output. (We use it for live shows.) This is perfectly fine, for what it is -- but there's a problem ( Read more... )

Relay Closures is how they do it in the radio world.

Yah, an actual circuit that gets closed/opened as a signal.

Old-school, but it works. Add that into your list of possibilities.

yummmmmm that reminds me of the old days with my Amiga.... I loved NewTec's software and hardware. I remember Video Toasters being used for special effects on a lot of television programs of the time too....

Unfortunately, this isn't an Amiga. It's a Windows XP box with custom hardware and software.
