Like River Song, in my verses Methos has encountered the Doctor in the wrong order. It's long been established in my brain that he met Seven and Ace first, in ancient Egypt (though the exact timing tends to bounce around a little, this being something I should probably consult a friendly Egyptologist about) and then Five in not-quite-so ancient
