Questions 18 - Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Well, there's this transdimensional bar that has some very interesting patrons who are willing to chat for the price of a beer... I even wrote a
fic about it!
Slightly more serious - and rambly - answer behind the cut. There are spoilers for certain plot points of my own fic in there btw
Inspiration is gained from life, the universe and everything; the queue for the loo, the person behind you on the bus, the wind in your hair, the rain on your window, interesting buildings, the tv you watch, the characters you love, random images (the Abney Park fic was solely inspired by one of their promo images) and whatever mood altering substances you may consume including chocolate! I'm inspired a lot by 'what if' kind of thinking, often 'what if immortals existed in X universe' and then I take it from there!
Plot holes are also an inspiration as you get the urge to fill them with what *you* think has happened off screen/page to explain the oddness to your satisfaction, so a show with lots of plot holes (hi Torchwood) is quite inspiring!
Then there are the random things that pop into your head - or the bunnies that climb in uninvited and unexpected as I think of them. Gaius from Merlin being a Watcher was one of those, as was Methos and Harry being forced together by a combination of mistletoe and a dog! There is another one that suddenly elbowed its way into my current WIP through one of my characters (Gwen of all people) rather than a direct light bulb kind of moment by me but I'm not going to tell you what that is - you can find out when the fic is posted.
Oh and Subtext - never forget subtext! It's one of the biggest inspirations ever - I even named a series after it (my Paris/Kim one which has its own AO3
page) because of that. Pretty much all the Jack/Ianto fic from S1 Torchwood was inspired by subtext as is just about every slash/femslash pairing you can name (and a lot of het pairings too); it's all a question of interpretation of what you see on screen.
