Congrats for getting on him! For the first few times you might want to keep your left foot (just) in the stirrup to make sure you lift your right leg over him as you get off. We dont use reins on a bit at first when riding, we use a lunge cavesson withg reins attached to the rings of that. You could do reins on one of them or a head collar and a second set on the bit for a while to bring in the bit action slowly.
