I'm getting a little tired of Obama being quote as saying "bitter people cling to religion and guns." There was more to it than that, and I agree with the full context of his comment. Do you think he was incorrect, or just unwise to say it?

I think he was unwise to say it. And as flubs go, it's not a major one (McCain can't seem to remember which country Irag is and which organization the Taliban are; Hillary exaggerates you know, whether or not she's being shot at), but it's an ouch nonetheless. It's not that he didn't know that his statements to a room full of rich folks would get out, and it's not even that he thinks religion is a crutch or an opiate for the poor. But it was something he said off the cuff and it got taken out of context. That's what soundbites do. In an election, you've got to be careful, especially when there are a slew of 'values voters' out there to be snagged from the Republican base because McCain doesn't do it for them. No matter the context, you've got to watch your tongue ( ... )

What gets me is that the press blows all this stuff up and just goes on and on ad nauseum. I agree that he needs to apologize and clarify. He doesn't do that sort of thing very well. His lack of humility is a double-edged sword. His confidence is part of what makes him so appealing, but no one can relate to someone who thinks they are always right. (And I am an "Obama girl") Hopefully, not everyone has CNN on 24/7 like it is at my house, and they don't hear this stuff as much as I do. I don't think it's a major flub either, but could the press, pundits, and 24 hour news cycle make it more major than it should be?
