An Afternoon Lesson, Part Three

Okay, I've resigned myself to the fact that endless tweaking will not, in this case, do much more good. Sorry for the wait; I blame my eternal discomfort at working with emotionally-charged scenes. (One reason writing scenes with Harry and Salazar can take forever. *grumbles*)

Aw, thanks! (She says, half a week later. *sheepish*) Hopefully you find the next part of the story enjoyable as well. :)

Godric, please define 'stupid Oath'.

You know, they're an irresponsible bunch. Even Helga, though she got away without getting blamed this time.

Hah, Rowena would argue that "stupid Oath" is redundant. Helga does gets chastised off-screen when Salazar retrieves the potion for Godric's lungs from her; it was a little throwaway scene that didn't really fit into the proper story.

Godric is like an ultimate test of preparation for the others. Once they can handle his antics (well, as much as it's possible to), several hundred students should be no problem....

I bet, but I'm wondering what Godric's definition would be (without asking for help from the audience ;) ).

haha, as if there was ever any doubt to my enjoyment!

And yes, that does make sense... it's been a hectic short while since Harry arrived in the past, and yet it seems so much longer haha. Salazar would have to be pretty sneaky to get one by on Harry like that. And I like the way you put that 'trained... to put up with Salazar's paranoia'. Not a Godric got into messes often, but that Salazar was always paranoid...
Still... that would be an interesting thing to see. I can almost picture it in my mind... haha... So if you ever have a similar scene.. I'd love to see it!!!

I think that growing up with someone like Godric would be enough to make anyone at least a little paranoid. And Slytherins seem genetically inclined to paranoia. Clearly, Salazar was doomed from the start! ;)

I have a vaguely amusing idea of how the scene might go; if I ever sit down to write it, I'll be certain to share.

Awesome! Really intriguing and original :) But I'm kinda confused about the relationship between the Gryffindor and Slytherin families... could you do a family tree? Well, or a simple explanation would suffice ;)

Thanks!

An excellent suggestion--I've been meaning to draw out a tree for some time. The family tree has been uploaded to the post directly above this one, though you have probably already noticed this. :)

Glad you're enjoying.

Fantastic!

I was almost in tears from mroe than just the angst, but also the painfully potent way Salazar's love for his cousin was showcased!

Incredible stuff.

It made me feel even sadder on Harry's behalf, to have never known that depth of emotion directed at him.. not from Family, Friends, even Guardians.

Not like that...

Oh, thanks. :) I'm painfully uncomfortable writing such emotional scenes, and it usually makes me come away with the feeling that I've messed them up horribly. Hearing that it was effective and moving is a huge relief.

I think the only thing sadder than Harry's lack of anyone who cares that deeply for him is how hard he tries to convince himself that he doesn't care. In a way, doing so only ensured that no one would ever get that close. Even Sirius and Remus he keeps at a distance.

"I think the only thing sadder than Harry's lack of anyone who cares that deeply for him is how hard he tries to convince himself that he doesn't care."

Ah. Yes. That IS worse.. :D

"In a way, doing so only ensured that no one would ever get that close. Even Sirius and Remus he keeps at a distance."

Hmm.. this I kind of agree-and-disagree with..

I mean, I could have just been interpreting your story completely wrong, all this time, but I'd gotten the impression that a lot of the 'space' Harry keeps between them is heavily maintained (if not solely rooted in) the issue between him and Dumbledore.

Now, obviously, you've been scarce on the facts of this mysterious incident where Dumbledore apparently led Harry out to Voldemorts' forces and utterly shattered any faith Harry had in him. Completely regardless as to that situation (Perhaps it was a set up, perhaps Dumbledore didnt tell Harry to keep his reaction genuine, perhaps it was nothing so innocent - if poorly handled), I got the distinct impression that Harry was further ( ... )
