While I am interested in personal task-management apps, I just found a new one I like even better than Hiveminder: Yojimbo. Found it while I was re-downloading TextWrangler. It seems to be a combined password safe, note aggregator, and del.icio.us frontend all at once. Fatal flaw: does specifically not have the remote sharing capacity ( Read more... )

Smartphone != IPhone. Plus, their are unlocked !Iphones !Windows-mobile-phones that will work with TMobile. But that gets back to the not want to spend $300-$700 part.

I haven't looked at the other T-mobile options recently, but I tried a Sidekick and hated it thoroughly. But I am embarrassed to admit that I was mostly talking about the iPhone, yes. Note that I wrote "mp3 player" instead of auto-substituting "iPod."

I'm pretty sure that T-Mobile is going to have an Android phone coming out soon, which should be pretty sweet. No idea what the pricetag on that will be (probably somewhere in that range you mentioned...)

The HTC-made G1 is available from T-Mobile, for $179 locked with a 2 year contract. Unlocked G1s can be obtained through Google for $424, with no contract involved.

HTC is working on a second Android phone, code-named the G2. And apparently Motorola is working on one too. Both have tentative release dates of mid-2009, which sound like typical marketing-driven forecasts, and utterly unreliable.

My MDA has lasted almost 3 years now, and is still going pretty strong. I wish I could upgrade to one of those shiny new unlocked G1s, though...

Huh, I just noticed that there's a Google Tasks feature that's being added to Gmail, which can be activated in Settings -> Labs. You may have seen it already, and it's probably too bare bones for what you want, but I just found out about it and remembered this post. :)

Rules for dealing with T-Mobile:

(1) Anytime you want to make a change to yoiur account, tell the auto attendant you want to cancel. The best customer service reps are in the retention department and they'll give you special discounts, let you do stuff like changing your plan without extending, etc. They get especially friendly when you tell them you're cancelling because you're buying an iPhone.

(2) Whenever you extend your contract to get free stuff, tell the retention specialist that a 1 year contract is the most you'll accept. Never take a 2 year contract extension. Of course, any such renewal entitles you to a free feature phone or a heavily discounted smartphone. Maybe a free bluetooth headset or something too, never hurts to ask! Never renew without getting lots of free stuff.
