Of all the economic and political news lately, this is the ugliest and most depressing thing I've read in a long, long time: Lose your house, lose your voteBecause, you know, foreclosure -> homelessness -> vulnerability to having your voter registration challenged -> no vote for you, at least before the polls close on Election Day. The part that is so slimy is that the contesting is calculated not to succeed - just to discourage. They're not necessarily trying to *prove* people are ineligible, just create enough of a hassle that the targets will give up, as will the people waiting in line behind them.

But, a lot of the time, people are literally purged from voter rolls without their knowledge until the election. There's no need for proof under the new system.

Not that any of this matters as long as there's a single paperless electronic voting machine, nor as long as votes are counted using Diebold equipment (which is true even in King County... and remember how Gregoire didn't win until the *manual* recount?)

Seems to me that if large numbers of people were voting illegally, it wouldn't be hard to prosecute them. After all, there's a paper trail... name, date, location... so where's the "Thousands Convicted for Unlawful Voting" banner headline?

I think it's a fabrication, like most all Republican propaganda.

Eh? Last I checked, it was impossible to invalidate a particular person's vote unless it's absentee or provisional.
