I think Manhattan's going to turn me freegan. (In the eating-meat-when-I'm-not-paying sense, not the diving sense.) Hospitality trumps frugality, and I guess I can't really complain about the price of meat from a 24-hour local organic grocery store,* but damnOn the other hand, I found a sushi place in the Lower East Side that's on par with Sushi ( Read more... )

if you want some proper good fantastic sushi, i strongly suggest Taro Sushi.

Yeah, it's in Brooklyn. I know. Trust me, it's worth it.

446 Dean (that's roughly between Flatbush and 5 Ave); Bergen Street on the 2/3 or alternately Atlantic/Pacific on...gosh, a bunch of trains. (See, you don't have to ride the F. It's okay. You also don't need a passport to go to Brooklyn, no matter what people in the city tell you.)

i can't remember their hours, but you can call 718-398-0872 and ask. i know they're closed Monday. apparently they're open 7 days now. whoa! i still have their number in my speed dial, but i remembered the address.

Also, the LES...the key's just swallowing hard and either hoofing it or taking the bus. thus, you hoof it a lot. Believe it or not, no matter how asstastic Manhattan buses are this is way better than it was in the 90s. hey, anyone else remember when the M8 ran once every 30 minutes....during rush hour?

I've been trying to set up a date with someone at a place she recommended in Park Slope. I have no fear for Brooklyn. :)

I don't think I posted about it, but the week I got here I took the L out to Williamsburg, got off at Bedford, and just spent some time wandering around and working my way south. (literally - I'd get on the G, go a couple stops, get out, walk around, get back on.) I ended up falling in love with the Ft Greene/Dekalb area, but not being able to justify the transit routing.

(and then last week I went out to Mineola.)

I guess I'm still too much of a n00b to understand when people tell me they've never left Manhattan.
