That plan I had? Go to graduate school in a field where it's likely I could get paid/reimbursed for going to school? Not happening, apparently

Holy hell. Where's that? If it's private, you probably have a better chance of getting scholarships and the like than a state school. Also, if you're not in an underfunded department, TA's and RA's are an option (but also mostly reserved for Ph.D students.)
Edit: grants are a long shot, but they're out there.
That's RISD, which is private. I'm also looking at all the other schools that people have brought up on Core77.
Two of the other highly recommended schools are in Ohio. Between those and CWRU, I sense a theme developing here... I'm not thrilled at the prospect of living in Ohio for a year to get residency, but one does what one has to do. (And I suppose if tylik's there, Ohio can't be THAT bad.)
Ohio isn't so bad. It's in between chicago and a few other cool places. I've been through Cleveland and Toledo a few times. It's not Peoria, which is a definite bonus.
How strong is your aversion to going through school on somebody else's money? Depending on the field it may well be your primary/only option (but then I'm cynical.. there are pretty much NO scholarships available for the first couple years of the professional schools.. there are some loan repayment programs, but those only start after you've taken out the loans, graduated and gotten yourself employed.)
As long as it's not my parents' money, that's just fine. I already have roughly $12K in loans from undergrad. Not adding to that too horribly much would be nice.
I see it as the next logical step in my professional development. I've been toying with this sort of half-assed approach to design, but it's feeling like something that can't really be done by half measures. I am pretty much just biding my time working in IT.
When I go to grad school, you can bet I will not be paying a cent for it. Research fellowship, teaching fellowship, I don't care -- but, at least as I see it now, I am done paying tuition. If they don't want me badly enough to pay my way, I'd rather make do with the B.A.

I'm taking 30K/year.. but the idea is I'll be employed sufficient to pay it off with no real problems at the end of it
