from the oh-yes-i-do-need-more-hobbies department:

Last night, gfish let me play with his sextant.
Now I really want to know what was the object I managed to get a fix on.

It was in the northeast at 10:30 PM 10/2/2006, bright, shining reddish. Sighting from gfish's car roof in the absence of a useful horizon, it was between 24 and 35 degrees up. Astronomy ( Read more... )

re making things: me too. i'm never like 'how can i buy this' but usually 'how can i make this'. let's found a civilization.

It is impossible for me to buy jewelry, and nearly impossible for me to buy clothes, for that reason. At some point with clothes I have to admit that I don't sew well enough to really pull it off, but the well-meaning maker of things is still there, sighing.
