It takes Edward a moment. He stiffens, glaring a challenge at Roland before he manages to smile softly. "Hey. What are you doing out here?"

Ed's had a hard few days. The best they could do was sleep on hard ground and rocks. "Eventually, Central. Only problem is we can get there before spring. So... " He just shrugs, giving a rueful smile. "We're just taking the scenic route."

Fox goes through each experience in turn, horrified, but getting the picture that this is someone's life. And...it looks like that man she'd been digging with the other day up ahead. Is she right? She can't tell at this distance so she moves in closer. She calls out to him, "Hey, you okay?"

Another person was calling out to him. He slowed his walk, looking up. There was something going on here, right? Maybe he was dreaming again? That was probably the reasoning, since this person didn't look like they belonged in Amestris.

"Yeah, I'm okay. Been walking for a while." He had bad boots. One could transmute only so many times before there wasn't enough material to work with.

She walked forward more, catching up to him and frowning concernedly. After all, she wasn't a bad person on the whole. She just measured things by how they'd benefit herself, that was all. "Yeah, it looks like it. Where are you trying to get?"

"Anywhere. No where." He gave her a lopsided smirk as he shrugged. "I have an appointment, but I'm not supposed to be there till spring. Until then, it's just a cat and mouse game with the authorities."

Rachel had never been in so much pain in her entire life.

Sure, she had broken bones before -- any dancer has, at any given point, been injured on the job -- but this --

By the time Rachel managed to find her feet again, she was dizzy, and holding onto a tree for balance...

Before she noticed the traveler.

"Edward!"

His head perked up, the piece of grass in his mouth twitching a bit. "Rachel?"

He walked over to her, still limping a bit, ready to wind an arm around her waist to keep her from falling. "You shouldn't be here." Concern was clear in his voice as he supported her with ease.

"I can stand," Rachel muttered in irritation, but she didn't object to the help. After all, that had hurt. "Where are we?"

"In the western side of Amestris," he answered, smirking at her complaint. "More or less, the middle of nowhere."

The sight is bizarre, and yet totally expected, really.

His surprise shows in the press of his lips, and the quirk of an eyebrow.

"Edward?"

He stops, looking up. His voice is cautious, as if he's not expecting Mustang to be here.

"Colonel?"

He spends quite a lot of time just watching Ed - eventually there are words.

"What are you doing?"

His brow furrows slightly. "Walking. What are you doing?"
