Uryuu watched in interest as Near started building his little patterns, started sorting the rocks. It was a fascinating little ritual, and possibly a good way of organizing one's thoughts.

"Some people grasp at order because it's all they know, and it gives a feeling of comfort and familiarity. Others grasp at power because they assume there's some to be had -- and right now, in this place, there's none. Everyone's autonomous and nobody's at each other's throats yet." It was an interesting concept. He looked down at Near, watching as the pebbles scattered every which direction.

"I don't understand that either. It seems like it's...I'm not sure what the word I want is." He thought for a moment. "Superfluous."

Near mused over Uryuu's statement. "There is no power to be had... Yet." He looked around and took in the city. Still overcast, there was some sun shining through the grey clouds.

Near shook his head, "They want to fight for a cause that doesn't seem to have a means to an end. We should be more concerned with finding those who brought us here in the first place."

However, what would come of that meeting? Anger and resentment, of course. But what answers would Near hope to receive? Would he go back to Japan if it were a viable option? He wasn't so sure anymore.

"Would you go back to your time, if you had an opportunity?" Near asked, quickly... The words jumbling together as if to be one long word.

"Yet," Uryuu agreed. He didn't doubt that it'd rise to the surface, and when it did there would be people looking to skim that cream off the top. There always were.

"People are losing sight of that in their zeal to pursue other causes," he noted, looking into the clouds and finding one of those rays of sunshine. "Whether or not this can be reversed...well, it doesn't matter. And frankly, at this point I'd be happy if we could just figure out what happened in the first place."

He glanced down at the question, thinking about it before he crouched down next to Near. "I...well, if one thing could change, and I don't doubt it will soon." He frowned. "My world is on the verge of being annihilated, and it's hard to say I'd stay here if I could be protecting others. But at the same time, the people who are out to wreck it are here and unable to do anything...and I've made at least one bond I know I'd lose if I went back, and that has me disinclined to want to leave just now."

"Your world is my world too... In a sense..." Near said quietly. Though they are not connected, what would happen if Uryuu's Japan was obliterated? Would it effect Near's Japan as well?

Hearing Uryuu's last statement made Near falter a bit. Was he talking about him? Near thought for a moment. "I wouldn't want to go back either..."

He was beginning to enjoy the company of others. He also was beginning to enjoy not putting his life on the line of millions of others. It was peaceful, in an odd sense.

Now there was a question that needed an answer. If the worlds were being compressed and were obviously coming into full contact with each other at this point...did what happened to one affect another? If that was the case then Ishida would probably go back in a heartbeat, both to save his own world and to make sure nothing happened to Near's. At the moment it was difficult to summon up the same sort of urgency he'd felt back home, though, since he didn't even know how to GET home -- and with Aizen and Gin right here and under watch it was difficult to think anything other than the immediate danger was on hold.

"If your world is my world -- and they're connected more tightly than some of the others here, for instance -- then that would change things. That's two worlds to defend." He glanced over at Near, one eyebrow arching. "You want to stay?"

He had in fact been talking about Near. There was a lot to go back to, but there was a lot he'd have to lose, too.
