It is almost obvious to Vincent where this is. not that he has seen the place before, just the feeling of it ... he associates it with one person, and she is there indeed, sitting at a table and lookin at him.

He comes closer quietly, without a word, wondering if there are things he should not say or touch, and comes to a halt just next to the table.

A small smile appears on her face when she sees him standing there "Welcome." She says softly and politely while she motions to the chair in front of her "You don't have to stand there, please take a seat."

Rinoa rests her hands over the table surface waiting for the man to take a seat "You're free to chose one of the books to read."

He takes a seat and considers both books. They look very similar, heavybound, with no title and no indication whatsoever of what might be inside.

After what seems like a very long moment or a few seconds, it's difficult to say, Vincent slowly extend a hand towards the book on the left and opens it.

The instant the book is opened a scene starts to play showing a small and modest living room, a fifteen year old Rinoa is carefully holding a baby boy while she softly sings to him, the baby is clearly dozing off due to the gentle rocking and the soft voice ( ... )

A maze made of sky. Awake or dreaming, it was one of the most beautiful places that Jotaro had ever been in. He wandered ita pathways slowly, unconcerned with the question of whether it was real or not, where it was, where it was leading. He didn't even bother glancing into rooms for the most part - the scenery was enough for him. Dark, velveteen, soothing.

Until the one time he did look into a room, and the peace was over.

Rinoa. She was in a cage. It was hard to tell, in the dim light, whether she was injured, but he did see the other presence in the room with her - the other woman didn't look concerned with getting her out.

This might not be real, he thought, but only fleetingly, before walking into the room and making straight for the cage.

Rinoa didn't realized that someone entered the room, it was hard to tell with the dim light anyway, that and the fact that she was on her knees with her back to where she supposed was the door with her grey eyes focused on the woman that was on the other side of the bars, a small flinch wrecked her body when Ultimecia started to move closer, with a small gasp of surprise Rinoa quickly scrambled backwards when the sorceress phased through the walls but her escape was cut short when she met the silver bars ( ... )

That sealed it. Real or not, there were some things Jotaro didn't let stand, not even in dreams. He stepped forward, right up to the woman who was abusing Rinoa -

- and almost froze. It's a dream. Things weren't real here, all in his mind. Did that mean - did it mean -
He couldn't rely on it, didn't try. Rinoa was the important one now, stopping this scene, getting her out, whether real or not he would get her out. One large hand darted out, to catch Ultimecia's wrist and pull her away from the cage. He didn't use all his bone-crushing strength yet, but certainly enough to make the message clear.

"This stops now."

Rinoa fretted a bit when she noticed the other person in the room and nearly gasped in horrified surprise when he took a hold of Ultimecia "NO! Don't touch her, stay away from her!!!"

The tall grey haired sorceress merely raised an eyebrow when the invader took a hold of her wrist "And who might you be? A prokector of my puppet frail mind..." Golden eyes turned to look at Rinoa, which only caused the younger woman to flinch "...or you're just stupid enough to trespass where you shouldn't."

With that said Ultimecia released herself from the grip and used a small gravity spell on the intruder forcing him to also crash on the silver cage as well, with a slight smirk she walked away closer to one of the crystals that were scattered in the room...

By the time Oliver finally found something, he was glad to hear the piano playing. He entered the room softly, in a reverenced silence over the sound. Holding his hands close to his chest, he moved to a vase, studying the roses with a little smile.

A deep sniff of the scent, heady, strange, almost forgotten...the smile now was genuine.

He turned again, and started towards the source of the music, tail swaying to the rhythm.

A six year old version of Rinoa with her hair up in a ponytail is sitting in front of the piano, replaying all of the songs her mother had ever taught her, but she stops when she becomes aware that she's not alone anymore, slowly she looks up at the rather unexpected visitor.

"Hello!" She says with a sweet and friendly tone before an innocent childish giggle escapes her lips when she sees the swishing tail "That's cute!"

A girl...he was momentarily surprised. Most people he knew who played the piano alone like that, well, were all old men. His brother'd teased him that he was...well, that wasn't here or there, really. And Sir Arthur had been a great teacher, anyway.

"You play lovely music," he said. "I'm sorry I interrupted. I play a bit myself, so I couldn't resist coming closer to hear better." Almost absently, he scooped his tail up and draped it over one arm, the tip twitching occasionally.

"If you're gently, would you like to feel it?"

"Thank you, mommy started to teach me when I was four." She said happily while she tucked a strand of black hair behind her ear "No need to be sorry, ohh, maybe you will like to play then?"

Grey eyes watched the tail that was now draped over one arm and gasped in pure childish delight "Really, I can?" She looked up at him obviously excited at the prospect before she calmed down a bit, placing her hands over her lap "I promise to be very gentle."

Jak panted. He had come to yet one more door in this endless maze that cut through the night sky. He hadn't found anything, anything at all except more stars and paths.

"I have to find something or I'll never get out of here..." He had the impression he was becoming an old pro at this despite the short time at it, but he didn't waste a lot of time patting himself on the back for poking around in people's heads. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door.

He was...amazed, the sheer elegance of everything in the room made him feel poor and dirty. Not to mention out of place, but if one room was like this, he suspected the rest were too, and this one was just as good as spending who knew how long searching for another. He stepped inside, looking for a sign of life.

And a sign of life he found, a thirteen year old Rinoa was standing in front of older man with raven hair properly dressed in a military uniform; his back was to her while he arranged a few documents on his desk ( ... )

He watched the scene unfold, mildly wondering if it had been the same for Ashelin when she'd been young. This however, didn't particularly matter.

Halfway wondering if the girl's father even noticed him on his way out, he blinked when he realized the girl had. "Uh...Jak." Yes, he was a real talker when put on the spot.

"Jak?" She looked him over for a few minutes before she started to walk around him with obvious curiosity "You don't look like a member of the Galbadian Army."

Finally she stopped in front of him slowly crossing her arms in front of her chest "Are you in the Army?"
