The instant the book is opened a scene starts to play showing a small and modest living room, a fifteen year old Rinoa is carefully holding a baby boy while she softly sings to him, the baby is clearly dozing off due to the gentle rocking and the soft voice.

"Rinoa?" A woman walks into the room extending her arms to take the baby that Rinoa hands back after placing a small kiss on the child's head "Zone is here to see you like I promised, he’s outside."

Rinoa nods while the woman walks upstairs with the baby, taking a deep breath Rinoa walks to the front door and opens it for another teen, probably a year older than her, with short black hair and brown eyes that's looking back at her with a very guarded expression, she dares to smile while she steps away so he can get inside, Zone only frowns before quickly stepping into the house with a small sigh Rinoa closes the door and turns to look at him.

"I...well thank you for agreeing to see me."

"Pft, I only did it because Amelia asked me to do so because while she might trust you that doesn't mean that I will trust Galbadian scum."

Rinoa winced a bit at the harsh words "I know that it must be hard for you, but I truly and sincerely want to help you."

"Do you really expect me to believe that the daughter of one of the highest ranking generals in the Galbadian Army wants to join a rebel faction out of free will!? How can I be sure that you’re not here to infiltrate the Timber Owls and give inside information to your father and the president!? I cannot risk the life of the rest of the members and friends; I won't let them be an example like...my father"

"I know that it must be very hard for you to trust me, but I assure you that the only intentions I have with coming here is too help you out, I can give to you information about the Army."

Zone crossed his arms in front of his chest and glared "Hmm, look girl if you want to join this just because you want a bit of excitement from your sheltered life and to show your daddy something then you better return home."

"Hyne, it's true that my all life has been sheltered in that protective bubble but it was one made out of lies and of the suffering of another people, I have been enjoying a very easy life were everything that I wanted to could easily get it while other people was suffering and dying to be able to get freedom...I had finally been able to see just what type of injustices the government of President Deling commit, the same man that my father serves and I don't want this to keep going, I just can't allow it, how can I be happy living in a world where we don't all have the same rights and freedom to make our own choices and live our lives as we see fit, that's not the world I want to be anymore!"

A deep silence fell in the small living room with Zone looking back at Rinoa critically, she looked back at him strong and with full sincerity in her expression, she really wanted to be a part of the Timber Owls and help Timber.

"Being a part of a rebel group is hard, is more than the mere will to make a change, is also about being willing to make sacrifices to know that your life might be in danger and that you can see friends die to know that now you will be considered a traitor to Galbadia and that if you're caught you will surely die, are you willing do live like that?"

Rinoa lightly bites her lower lip for a few seconds "I am aware of that and I'm ready to fully accept this life, I know that one day that we will succeed and I trust with all my heart that we might get Timber the freedom it's people fully deserves after so much pain, even if I have to give my life for it Timber will be free."

"Fine, I will allow you to be a member of the Timber Owls..." Zone finally said but he still looked at the young girl with a bit of mistrust "...but I will keep a close eye on you and if you do anything that might cue us that you’re feeding information to Galbadia, well you know the jazz."

"Yes, I understand and I don't mind." Finally she dared to approach him and extended her hand towards him "It’s a pleasure, Zone, my name is Rinoa Heartilly."

The man looked at her with slight surprise for a few seconds before rather slowly Zone took her hand and shook it, small gesture that brought a bright smile to Rinoa’s face.

Rinoa ... daughter of a general, joining a Rebel group ... He'd been with her for months, slept with her, and he realized he knew very little about her life. Herself, now that was a different matter, she did not hold back on that, but she had been reserved on her past ... and he had not asked.

He touched the pages, wondering if turning them and seeing more was okay.

The Rinoa that was sitting in front of him smiled a bit before she rested her hands over the wooden surface "It's certainly makes a difference isn't it?" She asked very softly but she was more than sure he will hear her "Knowing certain basics does tends to give a new perspective you have about a person."

She watched as he touched the pages and lightly shook her head "The reason for you to have that is too see and learn, so please feel free to keep looking."

Vincent stopped, then nodded, and turned another page.

This was a sie of Rinoa that he did not know, one that she did not readily show as she showed the rest, and he found himself quite curious.

Zone is pacing in the same simple living room like a caged tiger; another teen with a blue cap was silently standing a small distance away watching him, sitting in the couch was still fifteen year old Rinoa looking disheveled and dirty, a large bruise forming on her left cheek with a few ones on her arms and legs as well as a few scrapes too, she was holding a towel in front of her chest while Amelia was cleaning a few scrapes on her right flank.

"That's it..." Zone finally said while he came to a stop "...we will get rid of those Galbadian soldiers."

"NO!' Rinoa immediately said wincing a bit at her sudden movement, now the tale tell signs of recently shred tears can be seen "You can't do that, we will get in trouble."

"The princess is right, sir." The other teen interjected looking over at Zone "Doing anything to them would jeopardize a lot of people back here, sir."

"WHAT!!! But I can't simply keep my arms crossed when one of the members of my group has been attacked, what kind of leader would I be?"

"Well a very sensitive one." Rinoa said before she took a deep breath "Besides, I think is better that I received the hitting instead of that kid."

"You simple don't get it do you Rinoa!? If we had taken longer to arrive they would have probably raped and killed you!" The raven haired teen stopped when he saw the shocked expression on Rinoa’s face "...I'm surprised they didn't recognized the daughter of one of their highest ranking generals."

"Zone, just because she was the daughter of a general it doesn't mean everyone in the Army knew her." Amelia said while she stood up and placed a blanket over Rinoa's shoulders "Now, I will draw you a warm bath, fix you a light dinner and tuck you to bed, you had enough for a day."

With a barely there smile Rinoa nodded and waited for Amelia to be gone before speaking again "Watts, remember that weapon you showed me, the blaster edge?" She turned to look at the teen with the blue cap and waited till he nodded "Get it for it, I will pay you when you do...after today, I can't allow myself to be vulnerable and be an easy prey, I have to fight back and be strong or I won’t be able to help you at all."

There's a small silence before Rinoa lowers her head and starts to silently sob, Zone and Watts immediately approach her to try to comfort her after what happened to her.

That looked more an more like the Rinoa he knew. Kind. Strong. Wondering at the whys and wherefors of human violence and evil. Wanting to do something. Yet fragile at times, needing support.

She was young in the memories, younger than she was now, but not by much. Vincent hadn't been much older when he'd gotten into the Turks, but he'd known what he wa signing up for. Shinra and innocence didn't mix well, as Cloud has unfortunately learned.

Another page. Another stage in the discovery of this stubborn girl who had refused to give up on him.

A sixteen year old Rinoa can be seen sitting in a field with a tall blond haired man sitting beside her, Angelo is playing a short distance away chasing a few birds, a small breeze messes with their hair a little forcing Rinoa to push a few strands behind her ear before she looks up at the sky "It's nice today, isn't it Seifer?"

Seifer simply moves to lay down resting his head on Rinoa's lap, a slight smirk appearing on his face when she starts to gently run her fingers through his hair "I could definitely get used to this."

"I know it's nice." Rinoa says with a smile while she looks over at Angelo when Seifer closes his eyes "I feel a bit guilty, I should be helping Zone and Watts."

"Don't worry about them; they are more than capable of surviving without your charm for a few minutes." The blond man merely made himself even more comfortable on his spot "Besides, you are one of the most important pieces for the Timber Owls so you can indulge yourself a bit."

"Ohh, am I now?"

"Of course, you have the inside view and information that could help your rebel group with attaining Timber's freedom...it's all about strategy as the Garden preaches."

"You know, I have heard you speaking about the Garden and I know you’re a SeeD cadet but..." Rinoa looked down at him with a slight tinge of curiosity on her face "...I don't know exactly what happens there and I was wondering if...no, never mind."

"Want me to explain you?" He summarized while he opened a single eye to see the raven haired girl nod, closing his eyes he just settled more "The Garden is like a school that trains you in specialized military force, you go through all of that education to be able to become a SeeD, that are pretty much elite mercenary, SeeD's work as mercenary for hire while they wait to do what they are truly meant to do."

"And what are they truly meant to do?"

"To control and stop the menace of sorceress."

"...You mean kill them?" She asked very softly to the point that it was barely heard; taking a deep breath she smiled a bit "Thank you for telling me, we have to get back soon."

"Hn"

With a slight shook of her head, she bent down to softly kiss Seifer, she straighten up again to look over at Angelo once again, a small smile came to her lips before she moved to lay down as well, her fingers still tangled on his blond hair while she closed her eyes.

Jealousy was an alien feeling for Vincent. Even when Lucrezia had fled into the arm of another, he had no been jealous. Sad, andgry, a little, incensed at what he had done to her, but never jealous. Jealous would have meant thinking Hojo was better than him, and he'd never thought that.

Seeing Rinoa with this young man didn't make him jealous. It just showed that she'd had people who cared for her as well, people she'd loved, even in the middle of turmoil.

Vincent thought about turning another page, but suddenly decided against it and quietly closed the book to look at the Rinoa sitting there.

Rinoa looked back at him with a slight curiosity before pushing a strand of her hair behind her ear "You're not going to keep looking?" She finally asked with a small smile on her face "Or do you prefer to ask questions now?"

Slowly she retrieved her hands from the table to place it over her lap again while she waited for his answer.

Vincent thought for a moment, then shook his head, and pushed the book towards her.

"Will you tell me one day ? Share those moments with me ... for real ?"

It was a bit selfish to ask that especially since he himself was less than forthcomin with information, but he was ... slightly curious. And he would have understood if she answered no, or if she said he had to ask questions if he wanted answers.

The young woman looked at him for a few moments before she accepted the book back, the instant she touched it the book disappeared since it was obvious that it didn't had any purpose there anymore.

"Is that what you wish?"

Maybe it was a bit unfair to answer with another question, but she didn’t exactly saw fair or wrong here.

"I wish ..."

Vincent did not wish for much. He'd stopped wishing a long time ago, only to have many people come and grant wishes he had forgotten he had.

"I wish to know you."

At her own pace. Not expecting more of her than what he thought he could give. That was only fair.

A small smile appeared on her face when she heard that, it was a sincere wish from his part, very slowly she shook her head a bit.

Slowly she stood up and walked to him, placing a hand on his cheek "The information has always been there, Vincent, it has been waiting for you to want to see it because she also wishes for you to know her."

Retrieving her hand she returned to her seat, almost like if nothing had happened.

Vincent looked at her some more, this aspect of Rinoa's mind, and nodded.

"I will see you again, I think. Soon".

Slowly she nodded "Quite, possible." With a small movement of her head she motioned to the door "You're free to do as you want now."
