→ BESTIARY: WASTELANDS
There are many critters that run around Adstring, and they should be noted! If you would like to add something to the bestiary, please reply to this entry in a comment using the form. If there is something you'd like to keep "unknown" for now, simply put that in the section.
Creatures too closely resembling humans (either in behavior/thoughts or in appearance) may not be accepted. If it could, potentially, be a playable character, it is not for the bestiary.
For the sake of other players' reference, since pictures are always helpful, please make a 100x100 icon for it with no border if possible.

Name: Dragonhawk
Classification: Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Dragonhawks are reptiles that have hawk-like beaks. They have no legs, and thus rely on their wings and tails for movement. The webbing that makes up their wings and tails are like that of a bat's wing. Most dragonhawks will rarely get bigger than a good-sized house cat, however it is possible for them to get as big as a large dog. They can also come in a variety of colors; the most common are golden, red, silver, and blue. Their eyes glow, and can also come in a variety of colors; namely silver, yellow, or red.
Diet: Omnivore. They are scavengers, but they do prefer meat. Their diet mostly consists of things such as berries, fruits, mice, rats, and birds. Larger dragonhawks can eat things as large as pumpkins, watermelons, house cats, and small dogs.
Habitat: Forested areas where it is possible for them to stay in very tall trees in order to scavenge for birds, or eggs left in abandoned nests. It isn't uncommon for them to also stay in the attic or loft of an abandoned building, where it can feast on rodents and stray cats. They like high, reclusive places.
Lifespan: 5-15 years.
Additional Information: Dragonhawks possess a variety of sounds, most of which sound like that of a hawk. They also have a "purring" type of sound, which it will use in the presence of someone it loves and trusts. Dragonhawks are mild by nature, and can easily be tamed and trained to become an excellent pet, guardian, and scavenger. They have a tendency to be attracted to shiny things.
Golden DragonhawkRed DragonhawkSilver DragonhawkBlue Dragonhawk Name: Driftwood
Classification: Living Plant
Physical Characteristics: While the composition of branches and spikes is different in each individual, an average Driftwood is a four-legged beast made of gnarled wood. The specifics vary, as they may have a resemblance to and the characteristics of a species of tree native to their habitat. (Definition in picture below)
Diet: Dirt, water, sunlight and rocks.
Habitat: Generally, forests and grasslands.
Lifespan: Presumably a long time, depending on which tree they resemble.
Additional Information: They're very slow, physically and mentally, and weak to fire. However, a Driftwood is very strong and determined - it takes fire or something similarly strong to make them move from its path.

Name: Fire-lizard
Classification: Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Around two feet from nose to tail, though size varies with coloration. They look like miniature dragons, with smooth hides instead of scales, headknobs instead of ears, and ridges along their necks. Size and dominant hierarchy established by color, with golds (mating females) being the largest. Hierarchy is Gold -> Bronze -> Brown -> Blue -> Green, with golds and greens being the only females. Rarity is also established by hierachy; queen eggs are rare, and there will at most be one per hatching. Eyes change in color and swirl depending on mood.
Diet: Carnivore. Prefers meat.
Habitat: Sandy beaches
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: If fed on hatching, a fire-lizard will form an empathic bond (similar to a weaker form of Impression) with the feeder. Multiple fire-lizards can be bonded to the same person. Fire-lizards can communicate images to their owners. They're social, generally living in flocks, with the golden queen dominant over the rest. Very suitable as pets, though adult fire-lizards cannot be tamed.
They're intelligent, curious creatures and generally understand what is going on around them, to the point of taking independent action in the face of their owner's distress. They're capable of complex logic, though nowhere near human in intellect- around the level of a three year old child, or a particularly smart parrot. With patience and training they can be taught to execute commands such as delivering letters or assisting with hunting.
Name: Flying Monkey
Classification: Winged primate
Physical Characteristics: Resembles a common money from Earth, but with wings.

Larger image Name: Gillian
Classification: Spirit Creature, Menos Grande-class Hollow
Physical Characteristics: A long black body, Hollow hole in the center of its chest, a ring of spikes around its "neck", pointy-toed shoes, a loooong black body, and a bone mask with a spike-nose. Add a long tongue to smash other hollow masks and stretch the critter to the height of a two-story building, and you have a Gilligan.
Diet: Like all other Hollows: souls. Gilligans are Menos, and thus tend to specialize in eating other Hollows. However, as there are none here, they would try to sustain themselves on normal souls.
Habitat: Wastelands
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: As a Menos, Gilligan give up individual abilities for Cero (giant red laser), Hierro (thick skin), and regenerative abilities for a trade off. Due to consuming vast quantities of Hollows, every Gilligan consists of roughly a hundred/thousand souls, or more (never really said how many it takes). There is no individuality, only a gestalt instinct where consciousness' fight for dominance. In Adstringendum, Gillians are unable to use Garganta, the power to tear holes into the Mortal World, nor can they evolve into the next stage for Hollows, Adjuchas.
Larger image Name: Gyaos
Classification: Vampiric Reptile
Physical Characteristics: An airborne reptilian creature. It has large bat-like wings that allow it to fly swiftly, but prefers to glide over long distances. Over Gyaos' eyes are large shield plates that protect them from sunlight. Gyaos are mainly nocturnal, normally only hunting at night, unless there is a lack of prey.
Diet: Carnivore. Will eat any kind of meat, provided there is blood.
Habitat: Highly adaptable, but prefers warmer climates.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Gyaos reproduce asexually, allowing them to breed more of their own kind rapidly. They are also extremely aggressive, and seem to show quite a bit of intelligence, finding ways to outmaneuver their opponents. Gyaos also grow larger as they feed, allowing them to reach extreme sizes at an older age. As a natural ability, Gyaos are able to generate a supersonic shriek which is able to stun prey, and has been known to shatter glass, and severely cripple equipment such as watches. Also, what makes them extremely dangerous, is their beam which is generated by high concentration of particles. This beam can cut through almost any solid material.

Name: Hippogriff
Classification: Avian Mammal
Physical Characteristics: The Hippogriff has the combined body, tail and hind-legs of a horse with the head, front legs and wings of a giant eagle. The coloring of their feathers and body varies from creature to creature, but for the most part it usually falls in range of white, black, tan, brown and other natural tones.
Diet: Carnivore. They feed mainly on insects, birds and small mammals, such as ferrets and rats.
Habitat: Usually found in heavily forested areas of the Wastes, but are not limited to them.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Hippogriffs are extremely proud creatures who show profound loyalty to those who treat them with the proper respect and etiquette. When approaching one, it is customary to stop a few feet away from them first and bow without breaking eye contact. If the a hippogriff bows in return than it is safe to approach, if not... move back, quickly. However, cross them and they can prove just how sharp their talons and beaks an can be. It is recommended that they be handled by professionals trained to do so.
Larger image Name: Hobbe (Basic Class)
Classification: Goblin
Physical Characteristics: Hobbes resemble short and stout goblins. They come up to the average human's waist, are bald and have light grey, black, or red skin, and wear nothing but a pair of backwards pants.
Diet: Carnivorous, but are also known to consume pies and vast amounts of alcohol.
Habitat: Caves and sewer systems. Few have also been known to try to live in towns or cities but with little luck (as the humans inhabiting have killed them).
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Basic class hobbes are fairly weak, but attack in large numbers, trying to overwhelm their opponent. They attack with iron axes, hammers, or maces. Occasionally, they will carry iron blunderbusses to back up the rest of their squad. When they fire their guns, however, they fly backwards due to heavy recoil. When the odds appear against them, they may try to run away. Hobbes are appear to have some degree of cognitive ability (as evidenced by ingenuity and social structure) and great intellectual capacity, though that might not seem the case.
Name: Horned worm

→ M
Name: Manticore
Classification: Gnosis. Human souls that have been corrupted, lost their humanity and turned into monsters that can force others to turn into them.

They are fond of attacking with lightning and may be seen in groups or with other Gnosis.
Name: Minx
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Take one standard lemur. Shrink to the size of a mouse (not counting tail), add lots of long, soft fur (especially fluff covering the eyes). Make ears larger and down turned and shorten tail by a bit. Exchange arms for bat wings with the membrane connecting in the right places. Give an adorable yet really annoying at three o-clock in the morning voice. Color the resulting mammal a dark reddish-brown with black, yellow or white patterns (commonly just stripes and/or big patch on face connected with underbelly) and set loose.
Diet: Omnivore. Berries, leaves, bark, insects - basically what you'd find in trees. Also, toupees and other fake hair tend to be considered as delicacies.
Habitat: High places, with a preference for the canopy of forests. Has been known to savage the trees outside expensive looking buildings.
Lifespan: 3-5 years when in a setting of predators, average of ten years when kept in a safe environment.
Additional Information: Minxes are highly curious creatures, often sticking their noses where they don't belong and playing with the shiny red button on the control panel. Their wings are large and strong enough to let them fly, but as a whole the species makes better gliders. They live in family groups of 3-10, and the markings are subtly different in individuals, with said family groups having similar styles.
→ O
Name: One-Eyed One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater
Classification: Avian
Physical Characteristics: One eye. One horn. Purple in color. Capable of flight.

Larger image → P
Name: Parasite
Classification: Unknown Insectoid
Physical Characteristics: The parasites are about the size of a medium dog, and weigh approximately the same. They have several pairs of eyes, which they use to see very well in the dark. Their feet allow them to climb walls, and buildings, such as a lizard might. Their teeth are quite sharp and deliver a lethal toxin that expands the gas in the body, resulting in death.
Diet: Carnivore
Habitat: Darkened areas such as buildings, caves, tunnels, etc.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: These parasites inject a lethal toxin in their bite that expands the gases in the body, causing the abdominal cavity to explode violently. Symptoms of a bite wound include dizziness, uncontrollable bleeding, and finally, bleeding from all orifices.
Larger image → R
Name: Red-nosed Reindeer
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Other than it being the size of a small Shetland pony, the red-nosed reindeer looks like an ordinary Arctic reindeer. Except for its glowing red muzzle and its ability to fly despite not having wings.
Diet: Herbivore. Leaves, grasses, moss, bark. Pretty much anything that can be found on trees. They are also prone to descending and walking the forest floors in their hunt for mushrooms and other fungi which they have a great fondness of. The easiest way to attract them, however, is to salt the ground or leave salt crystals out to lure them closer.
Habitat: They stay away from the outskirts of the Wastelands where people are more likely to come and prefer particularly dense forests, where they live high up in the tree crowns. Unlike most other reindeer, they don't live in flocks (since a herd of red muzzles would be too easy to detect for predators), but instead choose one tree as their territory (for a single adult or an adult female with calf) to which they return at nightfall.
Lifespan: In the wild, 8-12 years. If domesticated (which can be extremely difficult to do since they are shy and can fly),up to 20 years if well cared for.
Additional Information:During the day, they fly about the surrounding area, mostly staying well over ground, in order to feed. When winter comes, all reindeer migrate to mountain areas where they hibernate in caves until early March. The only time they wake during winter is on Christmas Eve/Christmas Night/Christmas Morning where they gather in huge numbers in the sky above the mountains to mate.
The red-nosed reindeer also make for an excellent food and materials resource, though who's to say what might happen should you try eating that glowing muzzle...

Name: Sabre-tooth Cat
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Ranges from large to medium sizes (think larger than your usual big cats, down to the size of a snow leopard), depending on the type of habitat and breed (tiger, lion, jaguar, leopard, ocelot, lynx, etc.) of the cat. They are a diverse species that come with spotted, striped, or patterns anywhere in-between to sometimes coats of single color depending on their breed.
Very quick in their attacks and silent, their speed only lasts for several yards before they begin to slow and possibly end their pursuit should their prey manage to hear them before an attack is sprung.
Their canine teeth are very large and curved and has earned them the name of sabre-tooth cat. The sharp claws are not easily missed either, and both are used for hunting or attacking. From time to time, sabre-toothed cats have been known to fight over territory to expand hunting grounds.
Diet: Any kind of meat, and remember... you are meat.
Habitat: From savanna to mountain ranges.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: They are solitary creatures when it comes to their own kind until breeding season, and while their young grow. It is not uncommon to see both parents together with a group of cubs. The sabre-toothed lions are the only acception to this, as they enjoy living in prides to better feed eachother, and their young.
Larger image Name: Sandworm
Classification: Megadrile
Physical Characteristics: Appearance is very similar to that of a common earthworm. They have Crystalline teeth for dealing primarily with rocks and sand. Teeth are arranged around the rim of it's mouth. Size can vary up to hundreds of meters in length.

Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Young are tamer than adults. Adults are very protective of their own and territorial. Tend to attack solo but can attack in groups. Can be eaten.
Name: Shadow
Classification: Pure-blood Heartless
Physical Characteristics: Small and black with a tiny pair of antennae, they appear unassuming enough. But their claws are sharp, and their yellow eyes keen. And for normal people, they're stronger than they look.
Diet: Hearts.
Habitat: They prefer to live in the shadows, so that means pretty much anywhere.
Lifespan: Undetermined.
Additional Information: These guys are pretty basic; the basic of the basic where Heartless are concerned. Not only the most common type, but the weakest. Still, as said before they're stronger than they look. Characters without special abilities will be easily endangered by them. They can become part of the ground, if it's cast in shadow and move freely across it. Only when they get up and make their move can one attack them.
Name: Swan Dragon
Classification: Avian Reptile
Physical Characteristics: Medium sized (about the size of a large male tiger) winged reptile covered in white feathers, recognizable because of the orange, swan-like beak and the front limbs and tail which are covered in scales the same color as the beak.
Diet: Omnivorous, and large. Smaller animals, fruits, nuts and seeds, etc.
Habitat: Usually can be found inhabiting savannah and desert areas.
Lifespan: Supposedly about 15 years.
Additional Information: Even though the Swan Dragon is not as aggressive as the other members of its family, it is still a wild animal, and thus, while an individual can eventually be tamed by someone who demonstrates to hold power over it, it would be very difficult.
→ T
Name: Tegu
Classification:Reptile
Physical Characteristics:Tegus are relatively large lizards that can grow to a length of about 4 ft. Their jaws are quite powerful and can cause quite a painful bite. They are normally calm unless hungry or provoked.

Additional Information:Can be tamed, if one has knowledge of reptilian pets. Also come in a variety of colors and species.
Larger image Name: Tooth Fairies
Classification: Winged Creatures
Physical Characteristics: Tooth Fairies aren't very large, at best they might be around the size of a boot (height wise.) They have a blue-green-gray hue, varying with the type of lighting. They have four legs and two arms (with spiked ridges on them) and they have wings on their back. Their teeth do not appear all that sharp but they can cut through skin in seconds.
Diet: Calcium- either the kind found in flesh, tissue, organs but most commonly teeth, hence the name. If they can, they will go for your teeth first and leave nothing behind of the body but their own droppings.
Habitat: Forested areas in the Waste, though with proper food can survive anywhere.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: They tend to swarm their victims in great numbers, shredding whoever they have made a meal out of in no time at all. Despite how ravenous they are, the Tooth Fairies are capable of thought and speaking (even if it isn't in a language anyone but their own kind recognizes.)
→ U
Name: Unicorn
Classification: Mammal
Physical Characteristics: Young unicorn foals start out with a pure gold coat, turning silver when they are around two years old and growing their horns at around four. They reach full maturity when they are seven years old and are pure white with golden hooves and a silver horn.
Diet: Herbivore. Leaves, grass, fruit etc.
Habitat: Forested areas of the Wastelands, though some braver, more curious ones can sometimes be found exploring the greener, less populated areas of the Safezone.
Lifespan: Unknown
Additional Information: Unicorns are powerful magical creatures that tend to move around in herds, usually led by a dominant mare. The adults are very protective of their young, herding them to the center of the group when threatened before using their hoofs and horns to drive off the predator. They are said to represent innocence and purity, and are highly intelligent. Perhaps it is because of this that they are wary of humans, preferring women to men, though the babies are usually more trusting and tend to nuzzle curiously at humans once they get over their initial shyness. It helps if the one they're nuzzling has sugar cubes to offer them.
A good judge of people, unicorns will sometimes take an immediate liking to some while drawing back or even striking out at others. It takes time for them to become wholly comfortable with the presence of humans, much less trust them, but once their trust is gained, they can be quite affectionate and will even let some people ride them, though they will never allow themselves to be tamed as pets. If someone is at death's door, drinking unicorn blood can keep them alive, but unless that blood was given willingly, the drinker will live a cursed life from the very minute the silver-blue blood touches his or her lips.
