I honestly don't know where to go with this, but after a year of struggling financially and emotionally I feel my family has reached their absolute limit of disappointment.

My father was laid off today.

We've been down this road before, but it never gets any easier.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of accompanying Steve to his ten year high school reunion in San Jose. As Steve should know by now, I always have an ulterior motive for visiting San Jose and it usually involves food.

I often like to joke that my relationship with Steve has been like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". At family parties I often feel duped, because his cousins have gotten me to eat things they would never touch like Kilawing Kambing (raw goat, btw it tastes like a sweaty gym sock). I always look forward to fall, because it becomes socially acceptable to obsess about integrating winter squash into nearly every meal like a crazy person. Winter squash is an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, beta carotene and fiber. Its a versatile veggie that can be prepared both savory and sweet.

Wedding planning is a lot more difficult than I had ever imagined. From the get go, I wanted to avoid this hassle and just elope. The great thing about having a small and dysfunctional family is the lack of obligation. Lets be frank our budget will not get you much in Los Angeles for a wedding, except for maybe an empty room. I need to stretch that budget to accommodate 150 guests, food and drinks, cake, photography, wedding attire, flowers, and misc items.
