after three weeks they have finally hatched. amycus and i have been waiting for a long time so this is all very exciting. i'm glad that we have cassandra because feeding and moving the worms every day is tedious. she might not be as useful for the delicate work of unwinding their threads when we are done, but then again i suppose she does always ( Read more... )

Presents are unnecessary, pet. I'm just glad you find the creatures to your liking. The weather will make things tricky, so be sure to keep the humidity and warmth charms steady.

I'll bring home a kitten tomorrow.

Ah, the bombyx mori! I apologise for intruding, but it is vastly exciting to discover that someone in the magical world has acquired a specimen, and that it is apparently THRIVING! Where did you come by the mulberry, by the way, cos not many British nurseries I know carry them. They're terribly useful, though, for colds and indigestion and fever and things like that, and I think my mum keeps a bottle of mulberry wine around for special occasions. I'm tinkering with a small-scale method for separating the seeds and stems from berry-type fruits (I think it may have to be take spell form rather than machine form, because potions work requires complete separation, but I'm sure you knew that already cos I remember you were always good at potions). So far I've only tested gooseberries and cranberries, but it's going well. Would you allow me to experiment with a few of your berries, when they ripen, of course, and if it won't impede your own proceedings?

the mulberry is a white mulberry tree that amycus procured as a sapling from a chinese wizard of his acquaintance. but the fruits of the black or the red mulberry trees are said to be more flavourful, so they are probably the best for things like jam or wine.

a machine for separating seeds and stems seems quite odd to me. i always feel that my magic is strongest when i use my hands, even when it is tedious sometimes.

Oh, that's much rarer than I even expected! How fascinating. It's a pure breed, then, not a hybrid?

Well, truthfully, I was more concerned with amounts of, say, ~250 for home brewing purposes, but I see your point, I think a lot of commercial potionmakers get lazy with the magic.

pure of course. if you are really interested i can make you a cutting, they take root very easily, i hear.

it is why our shop tends towards the smaller custom orders, i would not like to have to use a machine or a spell for that kind of thing.

A mouse? You must've been very quiet for it to come close to you.
