Jeez Melissa, I'm sorry that you have no ability to comprehend people who identify as homosexual as being anything but "woo-hoo" over-the-top party animals with no depth.

It's basically why I find the thing offensive. Not because she didn't necessarily like the music (Shady and Kickin' In gets positive reviews in the article), but because she wrote the review in a way that was never going to take Adam or his music seriously. The bit about "Chokehold" makes me feel like she was being uber-flippant about the way she was going to view Adam and his musical output. Another EW writer did the same thing with David Cook's sophmore effort "This Loud Morning", and it makes me think EW has been hiring some really crappy music reviewers in the past year.

Exactly. It's okay if she didn't like the music, but she was being a total jerk about it and going out of her way to attack Adam and make it about his sexuality.

She has a right to voice her own opinion. People are too sensitive.
Although I think she is being too sarcastic, and it wasn't much of a music review.

Don't hate me, please, because Adam can just...

I agree she has the right to her own opinion. But we, in turn, have the right to call her on her stereotyping of gay people and her pretty much saying she's the arbiter of 'gay music' whatever that is. Happily, freedom of opinion works both ways.

the problem I have is that she was suppose to review the album not his make up or sexuality. She has a right to her opinion about his *music* especially as the designated music critic for that review. If she'd simple said "I didn't like it" and talked about what didnt work for her musically that would have been fine. I would disagree with her but that's her voice and her vote. The rest of the stuff she put in was uncalled for and out of place in a music review.

Even if she had a point (and she's certainly allowed to voice her opinion) she should do it in a respectful manner!

I'm shocked it made it past editors tbh.

Sounds to me like they wanted the attention...

If she doesn't like the album itself, that's fine and she can slant her review in that direction, but when she mentions his sexual orientation and constantly refers to his orientation in a derogatory manner, then she's stepped over the line into homophobia and unprofessional conduct.

In my opinion, EW should be facing a lawsuit over this review and Melissa Maerz should be fired for her unprofessional personal comments. Someone at EW needs to be checking into their quality control person. This review never should have been published due to her bias.

I'm sure EW will get several angry letters about it. Doubt they'll actually fire her though. I agree she should be strongly reprimanded if not fired for this. Extremely unprofessional.

She is entitled to her opinion, but "big gay dance club album" is a bit offensive.
