Twenty-five percent? What the hell, are you stripping while you pour my fucking coffee?

Listen, I'm not paying twenty-five percent even if you, as put more delicately by a former colleague of mine - 'take me out back and suck my dick.'

I'm pretty sure no one would do that for you even if you were tipping fifty-percent. What's your problem with tipping well? Did a waitress spit in your coffee in a previous life?

[ Catching her maybe during a lull in customers? If so, pausing smoothly to her left while thumbing through some paperwork. ]

If you don't know the minimum, Claire, you've no way of knowing for certain whether you're actually making it or not.

I don't know what it is specifically, because nothing in this place is consistent. [And because declaring one might be pushing things a bit.] But I know I make less than it if I'm depending on tips.

You're not depending on tips, unless you're fairly reckless with your paycheck.

[ Considering his position, Peter's relatively sure he should know and if there's some sort of ghost disrupting the funds now's a better time to find out than later. Still he arches a brow Claire, head tilted and posture relaxed. ]

Who are you trying to convince?

[ It's a guess, and he could be right or wrong easily, but he thinks anything that gets bullet points is probably a persuasive movement. ]

I'm not fairly reckless with my paycheck, but waitresses always depend on tips.

[There's no ghost disrupting the funds, but when tipping out busboys and the bartender is factored in, even with a paycheck before tips, it's easy to rely on them. Still, Claire arches a brow back, ruined with a grin as she slides back down onto her heels, drink tray held out in front of her.]

No one. I'm not trying to convince anyone. Just spread the word to the masses.

[And she's in a foul mood besides, which probably has more to do with this than anything else.]

Minimum wage?

adamantined December 31 2010, 01:44:59 UTC
It's... the minimum wage you, as an employer, can pay your employees. Waitresses typically make less than that because we get tips to make up for what's supposed to be the difference.

Really? What happens if they don't?

Well, it's illegal. They have to pay that much. I mean... I guess here you could get away with it, because who would enforce it? But back home that's the way that it's supposed to work.

[They are not perfectly okay. Not quite. Ginny is still simmering a little, but.]

There's ice cream in the freezer. The one with the dinosaurs.

No. I'm just asking for people to be nice.

Why, do you want to give me a higher wage?

I would gladly give you one for a single night if an affluent noble were to patron our grounds and buy the Blue Light out of its inventory. Help me find such a person.
