anatomy of an idiot

well, i haven't been called a 'fag' with that characteristic tough guy grunt for about ten years, and even then not outside the wilds of high school... but evidently, in the year 2007 no less, a young man has decided to furnish me with a nostalgic revival. one would have hoped, even in such a short time, that collective faculties of reason might ( Read more... )

I don't think anger of sexuality has anything to do with it. Actions like that are just a way of people expressing how bored they are.

nah, that's bullshit.

for a start, you'd then have to explain why this particular person decided to be a macho arsehole and throw the specific word 'fag' around to relieve his boredom, if you are to believe even for a second that this was the case (i don't). when i'm bored, i just read a book. or play my guitar. you don't explain anything new by proposing that he was bored, you just emphasise the already evident fact that this person had SOME motivation for doing SOMETHING. ANYTHING. but you still have to explain why that SOMETHING he CHOSE had at least the appearance of both anger and homphobia.

i also don't really get what you mean by 'anger of sexuality'...

well, while i did cover the whole 'fag' thing as linguistic gay-bashing or the choice of an anti-gay sentiment as an insult (i see it as being a more conscious version of it than, for example, saying 'that's gay'), i was trying to explore it while also making the point that it was fundamentally an attempt at random intimidation and self-assertion, and that he was on some level oblivious to the nature of the slur.

gosh this is like an 18th century aristocrat meeting a lowly peasant in the field and being utterly repulsed. Get over it. Crawl back into the mud and wallow in your self-pity. YOU'RE JUST LIKE THIS GANSTA ARSEHOLE! Human. fuckn human.

...good read though! I especially enjoyed the over-use of complex language and the moral indignation in your tone...

hahahaha

dude, i'm sure you can't be complacent enough not to detect the TONGUE-IN-CHEEK. the subject title is 'anatomy of an idiot' for fuck's sake! there is an element of formal essay farce to say the least. therein lies (what i intended as) the comedy. if you actually knew me you might have picked up on this. even with the posturing though, the language is still efficient and succinct in my opinion. i personally like words, i think they're nice ( ... )

No! It's a good read! Do you think I would take the time to critique you if I thought it wasn't an awesome article. I'm just worried about you, Adam. You seem to have a very beautiful mind yet you're writing in your journal as if people like this actually affect you.

whoa, i can't make head nor tail of this back and forth! sorry if i read you completely wrongly, but it honestly seemed like you were being pretty abusive in the first comment, and then (as i tend to do) i got all defensive about it and just assumed you were being heaps sarcastic. especially that wallow in self-pity bit seemed harsh. so yeah, i'm not sure what's going on right now...

thanks for the compliments; i'm really not trying to be pseudo-intellectual or anything. i guess that's just how i roll sometimes... (i.e. pompously). people being shit for no reason really does get to me. i wish it didn't so much, but it just confuses me and makes me question things. i guess it's not so much that i can't get over it as it becoming more of an intellectual curiosity and a niggling sense of hopelessness.

internet is great for misunderstandings though.
