Have you tried a pressure halter? I've heard good things about the Monty Roberts Dually halter http://www.montyroberts.com/shop/equipment/dually-halter-pony/ I've not used this one, but did use a rope pressure halter with my cob a few years back when he wasn't being great with leading. It only took a couple of sessions to teach him how the halter worked and how to release the pressure for himself and then he was so much better to lead.

Ah, looks interesting. And after watching that video, it really seems to be like when my trainer uses a chain wrapped in electrical tape (they're high tech there, as you can tell ;).
I've thought about that off and on, but hadn't gotten around to finding a chain. May have to now. And look for the electrical tape.

I've been having some success with taking ayurvedic tumeric for arthritis. It cuts down on other meds.
