Well, yesterday we were on the verge of losing.

Today we lost.

That is, the bastard wasn't acquitted, but the judge threw out the case on a technicality. One little legal loophole and a killer goes free.

For some reason he didn't look terribly daunted when I said the words 'appeal' and 'refile'.

Maybe he's seen our caseload.

Well, of course you can borrow it as long as you're not planning on getting involved in crime with it. Why and when do you want to borrow it?

I won't go Thelma & Louise on you, I promise. I just want to go for a drive, get out of the City. You can come with if you want. *smirk*

You're after fresh air?

That's tempting -- even if it was just to look after my car. I don't think my stomach could cope with such a drive. As long as my car comes back in one piece, I'm good with you borrowing it, absolutely.

Great, thank you. Where can I pick it up?

Technicalities were created for bastards. Didn't they teach you that in law school, Connie?

Yes, but it doesn't change anything.

No. It doesn't. But remember this; as much as I hate to admit it, it's not always a case of a good defense lawyer as much as a bad judge and jury. They are, of course, entitled to rule as they see fit..but all the same....

Well, I had a point and it's gone out the window. Shit. Let me go catch it.

Yeah, somehow that really doesn't justify anything to the family of the victim.
