Kingly Men and Women

I was reading more of the Jane Wolfe biography this weekend when I read a letter from O.P.V. (Norman Mudd) to Progradior (Frank Bennett). Bennett had complained to Jane Wolfe (Estai) that he was receiving negative responses from the public about his involvement with Crowley’s system and his followers were not supporting him due to fear of negative ( Read more... )

What does O.P.V.'s quote suggest about the current OTO policy that it is improper to "out" others as OTO initiates, this being considered a violation of their right to privacy? (And just how idiotic is this in light of a certain MoE task?)

As I am sure you know, it was the custom to keep the identity of female members private but not male members. I would venture to guess that is why O.P.V. only said "Kingly men," although you could argue that "men" here could mean man kind. Regardless, I think more to the point that the members should not out each other, but the members should out themselves.

We are not only allowing "the triflers, the half-hearted, or the fainthearted" among us, we are encouraging and facilitating their cowardice by telling them that we will protect the dread secret of their membership in OTO.I can see it both ways, but do think people should not hide their membership. As you all know, I certainly make no attempt to hide my full civil name nor my involvement or interests ( ... )

Why do females get the privacy?

As far as I am aware, it is because in the patriarchal western society, females are already at a disadvantage and revealing membership in an occult group could seriously hurt their social standing.

What really is laughable is when people are afraid of a opinion.

What is everyone so afraid of? That society might have a predictable sort of ignorant troglodyte reaction to Thelema? Say it ain't so!

The nature of a structure is that to progress through it, one must align itself with the values of the structure. In a nutshell, only those who agree or are sycophantic are given the authority to change the system, however they have a vested interest in not changing the system.

This is all well and good in a healthy system, but the simple fact is, the leadership does not have Thelemic values & thus the system is geared towards promoting these alien values.

Many members in the OTO are afraid to speak their minds and refuse to be critical of who they admire. The leadership encourages this behavior. Its become a norm in the OTO to elevate and reward those that only say what is PC, able to put on a friendly mask, and defend all attacks from those on the other side. It doesn't matter if you hate Crowley, don't care about the Holy Books or practice any magic.
