People Protesting the Pro lifers at UO Emu

I'd like to give the first annual jack ass award to the people outside protesting the presence of the pro lifers. If nothing else, the democrats are the free speech and anti-censorship party, so why is it that they would be so overly offended by these peacefully assembling people operating with in their first amendment rights. It's true that the ( Read more... )

There were several signs asking the administration to make them leave (the pro lifers leave that is). Also were a few signs about how big of a distraction the little booth was for the students and how it caused disruption. It certainly was interesting but to me because of the irony.

well, it certainly wasnt a little booth, it took up almost the whole ampitheatre... but its not like it was inside a classroom, its almost no different of a distraction than a band playing ya know. though it was pretty disturbing, and i could understand how it may be distracting for some people, because its so graphic... i mean they had warnings, but the pictures were still HUGE, so it was hard to avoid it.

i didnt see any of the signs asking them to leave, that is kinda dumb.

i was kinda confused at first because i saw all the stuff about pro-choice, then when i saw the pictures i was like, why would pro-choice people show this? then i realized that they were opposing the picture thing. i dunno, i dont think theres anything wrong with them opposing it.

No, they can oppose, total constitutional right. It's just the signs that say they need to be shut down and what not that are ironic. I mean, it's gotta be something like 90% of demonstrations are liberal causes, for which the republicans never seek censorship. Sharing your opinion, if done in the correct manner, is a wonderful thing. This was done in a correct manner with permits and what not. As for the pictures I managed to walk by the first time without noticing anything, I also try not to pay attention at what goes on propaganda wise at the UO, as it usually involves someone trying to hand me paper fliers.

I think one of main reasons they were there was because of the claim that abortion is genocide. That can be pretty offensive, as well as...incongruent with the definition of genocide.
From what I saw the Pro Choice individuals were peaceful as well, so why would you be so offended that they are countering the Pro Lifers by exercising their first amendment rights as well?

Not offended at all, I don't get offended. Do I think they are stupid? Yes. Many of the signs I saw were requesting the removal of the pro life stuff. That is where the irony lives.
