To give Vera and Sabre a break Jairdan and Tyn had happily agreed to baby-sit overnight while Vera and Sabre went to an art show. They doted on young Nilda as all good godparents should and had jumped at the chance to look after her for a night. Tyn was also nursing a battle wound after all - she had got in the way of one of Jairdan's bullets again, and needed to lie down often as the graze on her stomach throbbed with every movement.
"Thanks for doing this you two. She should be pretty good, she hasn't slept as much as usual today so she should go to bed early. Welcome to an experience of no sleep. You'll have to get up every hour or so..." Sabre explained, bustling around with lists of what to do and where everything was kept.
"Just what we're used to now." Jairdan assured. "We don't get much sleep at the moment, do we Tyn?"
Tyn ignored the laughs from the other two. "You always have to word things in the worst way possible Jairdan." she sighed. "We've been having a few troubles with Shaelt lately." she explained to the other two. "We've been taking it in turns to fly and look after the engine."
"Sure, sure. You're just trying to follow in our good example." the mothers kissed their daughter goodbye and Jairdan walked them to the door.
"Thanks again for looking after Nilda for us." Vera said to Jairdan. "We can count it as even for that time we hid you and Enforcers woke us up at 3 in the morning."
"Don't even mention it, it's our pleasure." Jairdan mock bowed and Sabre hit him smartly over the head.
"Too right. Besides, it'll give you both good practice for when you have your own." Vera smiled at the couple and then ducked out before their retaliations could meet her ears.
"They're always trying to rile us up." Jairdan mumbled as he joined Tyn on the sofa where she was sitting with Nilda.
"She's so tiny." Tyn said in reply, holding the small baby in her arms securely while Jairdan shook a little toy bunny with bells attached to it in front of Nilda's wide eyes. "Look at her tiny, tiny fingers with tiny little fingernails."
“Don’t get clucky now.” Jairdan warned. “We’re not having any kids.”
“I don’t want any.” Tyn snapped back a little too roughly. She turned her attention back to the little one in her arms and coo’d at Nilda softly.
“Good. I’m not ready to have to share your attention with anyone else just yet.” Jairdan said casually, making Tyn look at him as if to make she she’d actually heard him speak. It wasn’t often they spoke like that.
“…Just yet?” she repeated.
“…Sure. I was thinking. Having a kid someday might not be… too bad you know? Just… why the hurry? We’re having a good time at the moment for such a distraction.”
“Hmm, maybe…”
