School didn't return for four days while an investigation was held even though Tommy had been admitted into a secure hospital for the troubled minded under an hour after he had fired the first shot. The school was safe once more, but few understood that since only the drama class had known Tommy's reason for attempted murder.
Tahla had been released that night from hospital, although she had been ordered to keep it easy. Sal wouldn't leave her side, too busy fretting about what could happen if he did and also because she had finally returned those fateful words. It hadn't helped either that the nurse had insisted Sal help his girlfriend out as much as possible, but for once, Tahla wasn't causing a scene about it. One might even say that she was glad to have Sal around, but she wouldn't admit that out aloud.
Things weren't so good everywhere though. Students and their parents were in outcries about whether or not they were safe. The news of Tommy's bit of crazy had spread fast thanks to mobile phones, and now a lot of students were rumoured to be moving schools because of it, saying their school wasn't safe enough against hoons like him. CSC for instance had police on site at all times, but few would listen to the fact that the police were only there because of the drug problem at that school.
"What's going to happen to the production?" Daire asked quietly. They were all at Aunty Lou's house, spread out on the carpet in the living room with cups of tea or coffee or milo beside them, as well as their scripts. Not being able to meet at school wasn't going to stop them from meeting up.
"I really don't know." their teacher sighed. "Five members of the cast might be moving schools before the production week even approaches…”
“Why can’t they understand that Tommy’s just an idiot?” Tahla muttered, although loud enough for them all to hear. She felt sourly responsible for it all, even through she had never given Tommy any flicker of interest, or reason why he should think she’d be interested ever in him. Aunty Lou rested a comforting shoulder on Tahla’s shoulder and sighed.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do.” Aunty Lou admitted. “…I can’t stop their parents from removing cast members from the show…it’s their decision, and we’re lucky the situation didn’t turn out worse than it already did…”
They sat in silence for a long moment, while they thought it over.
“Well, this is what we do.” Toby spoke up finally with a grin. “We’re the modern day bohemians, right? We fight for everything Moulin Rouge cried out about, so we follow the lead of what the bohemians did, or what Marius does in Les Miserables!…” he paused for dramatic effect, and ducked as Simone threw a scrunched up piece of paper at his head. He glanced around at his fellow actors to make sure they were all listening before he announced; “…We start a revolution.”
