ben stiller makes me want to puke on his head. i agree with just about everything else. little jakie g. needs a shave and a haircut, though. what's with the ex-gay cowboys and their current terrible facial hair?

I really disagree with you about Crash, I thought it had a lot of flaws but overall I thought it was a good movie. I think Brokeback and Munich(I actually wished they could have tied) are both better movies but I don't really have a problem with Crash winning.

I agree with with everything else you said. I thought Jon did pretty well. I liked Clooney saying "guess I won't win for director now" or something to that effect. loved the fake ads and Colbert's voice over. Ferrell and Carell were awesome, they have such great straight faces. the Ben Stiller bit was pretty funny. the music thing during speechesdrove me nuts.

I adore Ang Lee, I love all of his films. overall I laughed more than usual than I generally do during the oscars.

yeah...crash...i think it could have been a good movie, but it was soooo preachy! it wasn't a movie about racism, it was a movie about people talking about racism, know what i mean?

yeah I could see not liking it for that but I had seen so much about it before I saw it, I had seen the cast on Tavis Smiley basically picking it apart so I knew what it I was getting into. I think its not an organic movie. its there to get some points across, get people thinking and talking. things happen in it that are very symmetrical and improbable(the same characters meeting up in different situations, is unlikely in a city with that large a population), so I saw it more a as a fable. and fables are moralistic by and large.

overall I thought it was technically quite good, the directing was sound, the cinematography was good, the cast was excellent.

yet I can see hating it too for any number of reasons. and really I think the filmmakers expected that reaction as well since they seemed to make the movie hoping to provoke reactions.

also, I think Matt Dillon always looks like that when listening to people when they talk. he has had that same expression on various talk shows I have seen him on in the past. in fact, come to think of it, he had the weird ape thing going on this morning on Sunday Morning Shootout.

I'm glad Crash won, and hey, Ang Lee won Best Director, like everyone said he should.

WhatI'm really surprised about is that Reese won and Joaquin didn't. I expected the opposite.

reese really has been the one to get most of the praise though. almost every review or critic I have seen on tv has said virtually the same thing-Joaquin was quite good or excellent but that Reese was superlative or phenomenal etc

I thought the best actor category was the toughest field but I was pretty sure Hoffman was going to win.

now the actrss category was a different story. althoug all the performances was great, I knew Keira Knightley, Charlize Theron, Judi Dench didn't really have a chance. the odds on favorite was Reese Witherspoon but I thought there was a possibility of Felicity Huffman winning.

I think this year was the first year in a long time I didn't have too many clear-cut favorites. I was happy that Reese and Hoffman won, but I would have been just as happy to see say Huffman and Strathairn had won.

and I thought all the best picture noms were good films this year.

ymmv

That music during the speeches was really weird. I started watching the oscars late, i always forget how early it starts, and came in during someones speech and thought, 'Aww they're playing them off" but no. I was so wrong. There is one part during an acceptance speech of some non actor category where of course one guy went too long in his speech and his counterpart goes to have his turn and they play him off even though he is talking and the camera goes to charlize theron and she's holding her arm up like, "what the hell how rude!". But then again she might have been trying to adjust the giant ass bow on her dress, who really knows with famous people.
I thought jon stewart did really well. I'm always a fan of billy crystal though, i grew up watching him. The scorcese comment was my favourite though, plus the amount of amusement that jon seemed to get from the pimp song recieving an oscar. That was good times.
