Triple J Hottest 100 of all time...

Jul 12, 2009 18:30

...because you know you're all interested ;p I'm going to list 100-21 first, with comments on some of the songs (particularly on the songs that invoked a WTF reaction), followed by what I speculated would make the top 20, which will be followed by the actual top 20 (because I guessed 75% of them - clearly I am a music geek, if the fact that I'm ( Read more... )

Oh, Joy Division>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nirvana, really. I never got into grunge that much. But there are some interesting and WTFy choices there, generally. (Am I also the only person to prefer the original Leonard Cohen Hallelujahs? This is probably because he's one of the few artists of that singer-songwriter type that I can actually stand....) AND MOTHERFUCKING HELL YEAH FOR KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA.

*drags you to IM*

Well, you know my opinion on the matter: Joy Division pwns everything, not just Nirvana.

This country seems to have a collective hard-on for Jeff Buckley (and, as you can tell by looking at the list, skinny white males who wail and/or yell about their epic manpain), so if there was going to be a version of Hallelujah on the list, it was always going to be his. And I thought you'd like the Muse inclusion ;)

Sorry I wasn't on IM last night. Shortly after I posted this my computer had a breakdown of epic proportions, and I had to reboot the twat. I'm more than willing to be dragged over there now, if you're on. In fact, I don't even think there would be all that much dragging involved.

*facenoms* I'd love to come on IM, but I'm super-knackered at the moment (just about to crash) and have pushed my sleeping rhythm forwards again, so I don't know when I'll be up properly for blatherings and Seadevilings. WAH. But *smooch*. Shall try and make noises when I'm up and so on.

As we both know I only started listening from the Top 20 but this was so much fun!! They really should do this shit more often! It really makes you appreciate the awesome music that we have around :D

Thanks for the list bb, I think I'll use it to d/l more songs. Yep I'm hooked.

AND YAY FOR JOY DIVISON!!!

ps - care to explain your reaction to the Blink 182 song? Not worthy of the TOP 100?

I know. We had an awesome time, going into each other's rooms and generally flailing ;p I think they should have an all-time list every 5 years, rather than 10. Every year would be a bit too much, but 5 years seems about the right amount of time.

As for the Blink 182 song, it's not as though I hate it as such, but songs that are so much better than that one could have been in that spot. It was more of a "what the fuck is that doing here?" reaction than anything else.

AND YES, HELL FUCKING YEAH FOR JOY DIVISION!!!

Ok yes 5 years does sound good!!

That's kinda what I thought you meant. Blink 182 don't reallly strike me as dudes who made ground breaking stuff. lol

*THROWS CONFETTI FOR JOY DIVISION*

that's a much better list than would probably turn up for user-voting on an American station

It helps that Triple J is the biggest indie station in Australia. If it was a more mainstream music station, I doubt the list would have looked anything like this.

Thats a great list and there is NOTHING in there that I think shouldn't have made it at all. Quite a few I think should made it higher, and some that I think are missing, but yeah. yay Triple J!

Also, Killing In The Name Of - Rage Against The Machine. OH YEAH BABY. That would have to be my surprise ranking. I love that song so much but would never have expected it to be at #2. Or in fact in the top ten.

I think it's an awesome list as well. Sure, there are two songs in particular that I wish hadn't made it, and had been replaced by some of those missing songs, but overall it was pretty epic.

Killing in The Name Of's ranking shocked the hell out of me as well, but in a good way. I may or may not have been listening to that very song throughout the course of this morning.

What a wonderful list they had there. Thanks for sharing it. I have to give them credit because most of the songs on there are completely awesome and totally deserve to be there ( ... )

No need to apologise about music-related long-windedness with me. I'm just glad I'm not the only who can blather about music for ages *hugs* I knew you would love the prevalence of Radiohead in the top 30, and as soon as "Paranoid Android" came on, I thought of you :) Oh, and HG2G refers to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, which I couldn't really be bothered typing out the full title of at the time.

Also, "Killing In The Name Of" is definitely one of Simm!Master's songs.

And Control always breaks my heart. It remains the only movie that has made me cry while at a cinema. Sure the emotionally manipulative. use of "Atmosphere" doesn't help, but the way Sam Riley conveys Ian's mental deterioration so well, so much so that you could really feel that he felt that killing himself was the only way to escape the mess that was his brain, it always tears me up inside (which is why I shouldn't watch that movie as much as I do ;p) It hurts, but I love that it has that emotional impact.
