...because you know you're all interested ;p I'm going to list 100-21 first, with comments on some of the songs (particularly on the songs that invoked a WTF reaction), followed by what I speculated would make the top 20, which will be followed by the actual top 20 (because I guessed 75% of them - clearly I am a music geek, if the fact that I'm ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was pumped by the exact same songs! Particularly, well, you know which one I would have been the most giddy about ;p

Everlong and Killing In The Name Of were definitely the most surprising picks in the top 10. I mean, I had that latter pegged for a top 20 appearance soley based on the fact that the song hadn't appeared as of yet, but I never thought it would claim the second position. As for Everlong, I really can't muster up anymore of a reaction than meh.

I was shocked by the lack of females in any capacity. There were only 2 female vocalists in the whole countdown (both of the Massive Attack songs), and a handful of songs in which females play instruments.

I was pleased with Killing In The Name Of at the time (shocked, but pleased), but after a day of having it stuck in my head, I'm not all the pleased at the moment ;p

What that forum poster said does make sense, but I think the fact is, when you think about it, how many of your top ten songs featured females? I mean, my list had 2, but I never really expected those songs to feature in the hottest 100 anyway.

The whole thing just shows how good 90s music is!
I agree. You sort of forget about the 90s stuff, because the "classics" tend to all be from the 60s/70s, but you listen to a countdown like this, in which the majority of voters would have been teens in the 90s, and you sort of rediscover that music didn't end in 1979 ;p
