A...blind...date.

What's a 'blind' date?

Private acertifieduser June 24 2011, 03:21:13 UTC
Well, alright. A "blind date" in the traditional sense means two people set up by someone else or an electronic medium such that neither knows what the other looks like or knows much about them. This obviously isn't the traditional version because hopefully he'll know a little about them and vice-versa beforehand, as well as have a general idea about appearance, but it's still being set up by a third party and doesn't offer much insight before the date. I think it fits, even if it's not really the strict definition.

What do you think? You think it can pass as a blind date or should I be calling it something else?

[private] This would possibly horrify George. scarlet_discord June 23 2011, 11:39:52 UTC
Twenty-four? Oh. Sorry, I'm too young. Too bad. He's a decent guy and it would make for good practice.

E-eighteen. [She's off by six months.]

I think you're a little too young. Listen, if you're just looking for practice dating, if that's something important to you, I'm happy to take you out sometime. The most important part of dating is feeling comfortable and experience can help with that.

How did this particular venture come to pass?

An attempt at mutual understanding. We get along well and he's willing to try some modern customs because they're relevant to my redemption.

Fair enough. Well, I'm a bit outside the upper limit of your age range [actually, a lot, but she only looks like her mid-thirties] but seeing as I'm already acquainted with George, I can make myself available if you haven't found another candidate.

I think I might have found someone, but I appreciate the offer. I'll let you know if they fall through.

That's a good start. What's your name, what do you look like, and can you lead a conversation without taking over? He needs guidance, but I don't want him completely overwhelmed.

[Her video feed flicks on and she doesn't exactly present a winning smile, but she's too vain not to at least attempt a sigh and sarcastic grin.]

My name's Wichita. I can ask questions and follow-up questions with vigor.

[THUMBS UP.]

[Eddie's all charisma and moxie.]

I'd like to help you choose what you wear and what you end up doing for the date. If you're alright with us working closely together, then I think you're the ideal candidate.. and be careful with the sense of humor. I'm not sure he really understands sarcasm very well yet.

A lot of people seem to enjoy Mr. Doyle's novels. If he ever put out any about hellish hounds, my Inspector helped him with that!

Mr. Wells' novels are very popular as well, but I don't quite agree with his...politics.

Our Detective Murdoch attended that new play of Mr. Wilde's, 'The Importance of Being Earnest' and reported that it was quite humorous.

I read mostly penny dreadfuls. I try to get all of the ones about Sexton Blake, who is a detective. Most of his stories are in Union Jack, but he's sometimes in the Halfpenny Marvel as well.

I'll read a few of Holmes and 'The Importance of Being Earnest' and get back to you. Thanks for the recommendations.

In the meantime, there's a nice young woman who would like to take you out for dinner. What do you say? One date?

In the interest of mutual understanding, and so as not to disappoint her: alright.

...it's not that Miss Amanda Young, is it?

No, George. I like you more than that. She seems nice.
