Because Wikipedia is based off a socialist model in which the community works together in order to build a single common good for everyone to use. Standard research encyclopedias built off the capitalistic model attempt to gather as much information as possible from limited source with the ultimate goal of selling it to individuals.

The problem is that when society can post anything without credentials, we get info that tells us Europe got a version of Super Mario RPG a millennium after its initial release, about two years before the Wright Brother's first successful flight. :)

Not saying Wiki sucks or anything, I love it, but things like this make me laugh. Hard.

I've looked through the last changes to the article in the last month, and I haven't found the section you posted about, specifically about the 1000 years part. I will say though that in such cases of vandalism, it is usually cleaned up very quickly do the a large community effort that exist within the system.

I don't know when the vandalism you posted happened, but I would be surprised if it lasted anything more than a day.

Yer right, I just went back to the exact page I copied that from and other than some gibberish in one of the lines, it was fixed. Guess they do fix things pretty swiftly. And in all honesty, I made the post about 5-10 minutes after I found that bit, so they move fast.

Glad you mentioned they fix things so fast, I was really hoping that "typo" wouldn't last, in a way. I remember that news article from a week or two ago about someone pulling the final words from a recently dead composer from Wiki, which someone intentionally falsified to see what would happen. I'm glad not only the publicized flub-ups get remedied.

Hit by a car? Criminy, hope yer doin' alright, I'd hate for being in traction to prevent the trip up.

As of today, I'm doing better than I have in a while, as Ogre and Crystal have just been accepted as my new roommates! They're gonna be moving in next week, so I gotta get used to living with other people again, but my finances aren't gonna suck so much for a while, so I'm very grateful right now. Still need a job, but now I'm not so put out about it.

And yes, I already asked them if it was okay you spend a day or however long here, and they're cool with it. Not that I was afraid they'd say "no", but now I need to get them involved in these decisions.

Also, just a heads up...if you have Platinum, bring it with you. As that WoW commercial goes "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!"
