that's crazy, because I saw Inside Man with my parents(and Tom) the night before.
It was good.
What's wrong with romance movies? They rock.

Romantic movies make me sad for like a couple of weeks after I get out of a relationship. After that, they make me happy thinking about how wonderful a future relationship might be. Watching the process of two people meeting and falling for each other gives me more hope that I might find that special one sometime soon. I'm more put off by the super cutesy relationships some of my friends have right now.
If I recall correctly, I wasn't as big on romantic movies or books when I was in a relationship, since I had my own story playing out for me.

Admittedly, I have never liked emo, in any of its incarnations.

Emo grew out of the Washington DC '80s era/minor threat/dischord scene. It was a much less abrasive form of punk, hence it was called emo core.

Somehow in the late 90s, emo came to characterize groups like Bright Eyes, At the Drive In, Sunny Day Real Estate, and assorted other bands I don't listen to. Emo was also assigned to the cult classic Weezer album Pinkerton. I seem to have outgrown Weezer.

Anyway, Riot Girrl seems to characterize Sleater-Kinney better than anything else. I enjoyed them for a while, but they wear thin after a while to me.

As far as Flaming Lips are concerned, I suppose I'm a bit old school. They don't get any better than the 1990 album In a Priest Driven Ambulance. If you haven't heard that, I highly recommend it.

I have read the book High Fidelity and the movie is reasonably faithful to it, although quite noticably, the setting is in London.

i haven't heard a lot of emo, so i can't really judge, but the stuff i have heard, some of it was ok and some was just annoying. sleater-kinney could fall into many categories, none of them fully characteristic of them, but you're probably right, riot grrrl would be best. although that has some problems too. (for example, i hate the term "girl rock" or "girl punk".)

at the moment i have three flaming lips albums: transmissions from the satellite heart, the soft bulletin, and yoshimi battles the pink robots. i loved them all. i hope to get all of them eventually.
