Found you while Googling the Rickey tributes. Rickey actually had a Livejournal but he never posted anything; I made him get one because I had to quit posting publicly due to a local stalker(ish) person, and he wanted to keep up with my doings from across the country. He was rrrboy.
Rickey was a great guy, wasn't he? I can hear his voice like he's still here talking about Tommy Stinson. "Placemats....fuuuuuuuuuuck." That was Rickey.
I don't know about you, but seeing how respected he was by his peers -- and seeing journalists like Steve Landau and Jaan Uhelszki among those peers, journalists Rickey and I both read when we were up and coming wanna-be music journalists ourselves in the 80's in Richmond, makes me beam with pride for him. He did what he set out to do, and now he's outta here. Most folks don't get to say that.
That was one of his defining attributes - his purity. He was always doing what he was meant to do. He had no pretense. The reason animals loved him is because they could sense the immense love that was bursting from him, even when he was being crotchety.
